1 Looking for the Power BI on-prem alternative?
@USAFmjscott

2 Here is the session ABSTRACT:
Do you like Power BI – but your company is not ready to move to the CLOUD? In this session we will be covering the On-Prem Power BI alternative that Microsoft has endorsed: *Pyramid Analytics BI Office*. We will discuss architecture considerations; use cases; integration points with Power BI, SharePoint on-prem, and SSRS; Tabular Modeling on-the-fly; and even consumption of data from Azure ML! Do you want to allow your business users to build Tabular models on the fly, or connect to your multi-dimensional cubes - and visualize them immediately? Come and hear about how you can do all of this and more with Pyramid Analytics BI Office suite.

User has 2 options: to publish to PowerBI service in the cloud, or to Pyramid Analytics on-premises The two companies are working to have Power BI Desktop files published to Pyramid Analytics on-premises server – and also be able to triangulate publishing from Pyramid to PowerBI service in the cloud Go-To-Market Coordination: Pyramid helps organizations vested in the Microsoft data stack to spotlight and extend investments in sophisticated data models Pyramid’s value proposition: With Pyramid’s enterprise BI platform (called BI Office), organizations looking to keep BI workloads on premises, or private clouds, get the most of their investments in SSAS’s sophisticated multi-dimensional and tabular models; and expand BI adoption via governed sharing of analytics content. <<in more detail>> Profile of customers that will benefit from Pyramid’s on-premises solution to scale collaborative BI: Enterprise customer (EPG major or CAM E; SMS&P CAM S), with >500 desktops Wishes to keep BI on-premises or private cloud ((ex: IaaS in Azure) Has substantial SSAS investments to leverage, protect, and grow Requires enterprise-grade governance, scalability and security Envisions content sharing across departments, user personas, workflows Solution involves complex models, shared business logic, strong mobile support Dedicated BI team/initiative owner BI Office, in summary: Turnkey enterprise analytics solution: Integrated modules to analyze, monitor, report data (called Data Discovery, Dashboards, Publisher) Easy to self-serve and share trusted BI content: Customers successfully expand BI adoption via governed sharing of analytics content, reports, data models, business logic, and more – across the enterprise Architected for scale, governance & collaboration: Server-centric solution fulfills IT’s and Business User’s needs for agile, easy-to-use, and self-served analytics coupled with governance, security, and scalability Best-in-class on Microsoft SQL and SSAS: Lights up SSAS interactivity of multi-dimensional cubes and in-memory tabular models, protecting and extending investments in sophisticated models on Microsoft data stack

4 SharePoint 2016 - Changes Excel Services in SharePoint
Excel Services and its associated business intelligence capabilities are no longer available in SharePoint Server. The following Excel Services functionality has been deprecated: Trusted data providers Trusted file locations Trusted data connection libraries Unattended service account Excel Services Windows PowerShell cmdlets Opening of Excel workbooks from SharePoint Central Administration site The following Excel Services functionality requires Excel Online in Office Online Server Preview: Viewing and editing Excel workbooks in a browser (with or without the Data Model) Excel Web Access web part for SharePoint ODC file support (no longer requires Data Connection Librariees) Programmability features such as JavaScript OM, User Defined Function Assemblies, SOAP and REST protocol support From here:    Performance Point Services (BI in Sharepoint):  is being “back ported” to work in Sharepoint 2016 – but the support lifecycle is not being extended:

5 Power BI On Premise Announcement
In SQL 2016 SSRS will offer: Paginated Reports Mobile Reports (Formerly DataZen) Beyond SQL 2016 SSRS will add: Power BI Reports

6 What does this mean? SSRS will add a report type to distribute PowerBI Desktop reports This will: Require the Power BI Reports to be converted and deployed to SSRS SSDT or Visual Studio Be interactive within the report No additional Self-Service capability No reuse of data model or business rules within other SSRS reports

7 Summary Basic on-premise Power BI distribution to augment SSRS deployments Microsoft still intends to make PowerBI the best Cloud service for BI available Pyramid Analytics has an enterprise grade on-premise solution for Microsoft BI today Pyramid Analytics will have publish Power BI to BI Office in conjunction with the SQL 2016 launch with data model and business logic reuse

8 USE CASES? For these two scenarios:
1)You (or your customer) needs private cloud on-premise or IaaS or Customer has substantial SSAS investment that needs to be leveraged and protected* and 2) An enterprise deployment with challenging requirements for scalability, security, or delivery of content across multiple personas and workflows or verticals or solutions that require shared business logic * What about SharePoint? * What about SharePoint?? USE CASES?

14 BI Office – Complete Analytics Solution
BI Office has the familiar interface of Office – however, we have a completely integrated suite that seamlessly works together Data Discovery: Visualizations are the key to uncovering new patterns, trends and insights. Data Discovery has exceptional filtering, sorting, interactive and context sensitive visual analytic capabilities. With over 20 animated and interactive chart types, 30 variations of multi-charts, dual axis charts and geospatial mapping, Data Discovery users delight in exploring an endless array of visualizations to explore and tell a story. Dashboards: Empowers every user to build beautiful, simple, drag-and-drop, slice and dice, dashboards that tell a story to make your point. It not only is easy to create but also to distribute and enlighten your audience with fully interactive, gorgeous dashboards on the web, on your favorite mobile device or even live within PowerPoint. Conditional displays and slicers can be used to dynamically change views for enhancing dashboard experiences. With Publisher, grids, charts, maps and other items can be dropped onto the page and descriptive text can dynamically flow around objects to get the exact format you want. This allows every user to add a descriptive narrative which enriches the reports and the story of your data. This seamless integration of both text and visuals enhances your reports for all levels of your organization.
