Incoming Freshmen (currently in district) Registration materials were distributed to students on Monday in Counselor presentation at North Freshmen Worksheet (pink) must be turned in to Flex teacher by Tuesday, February 9 th ! Course Selection Sheet (pink) New to District (purple) available in Student Services after this meeting. Pick up folder. Directions for PowerSchool course selection (white) Course Guide (received copy at meeting, also online)

Incoming Freshmen (new to district) 1. Complete District Enrollment before you register for courses (HS or District Office). 2. Return purple registration form to MFHS Main Office by March 4th. 3. Counselors will input course request for new students.

Career Clusters The 16 Career Clusters have been identified to help students develop a program of study with a purpose in mind. See pages 11-19 in course guide. Must select 1-3 career clusters of interest when selecting courses. Check out the 7 ‘HOT’ job market career clusters!!

Honors Placement in Core Classes Honors courses are offered in the core areas of English, Science, Social Studies and Math. Placement in honors level will be determined by teacher recommendation, grades and test scores. For students new to the district please consult with your current teacher for the best placement decision.

World Language If you are currently taking a World Language, and would like to continue, sign up for Level II of that same language. Example: Spanish 8 Spanish II If you would like to take a World Language in 9 th grade and have not taken it in 8 th grade, sign up for Level 1. Within UW System, only UW-Madison requires 2 years of same foreign language for admission. Exit criteria varies.

On-Line Registration (For Current North Students Only) Reminder: Select courses online (PowerSchool) between February 2 nd and February 9 th. Freshmen (currently in district) will be automatically scheduled in the appropriate core classes: English, Math, Biology and World History, as well as PE and Study Hall. **Remember students new to the district should provide teacher sign off for core class placement.

Final Reminders Course Guide and PowerPoint are available online. Choose classes wisely. *Make a one year commitment to your course selections. Schedule changes are only allowed on a very limited basis. Be sure to sign up for both semesters of a year long course. Choose at least 2 alternate courses. Not all courses are offered each semester or each year. Read course guide carefully and plan ahead!!

Tips to HS Success Get involved in at least one after-school activity. Involvement breeds a positive outlook and academic success. Advocate for yourself and seek out help when needed. Maintain your academic focus. What you do today and tomorrow in your high school classes will impact you in 4-5 years. Maintain a balance between school and personal life. Know your limits and realize when you may be taking on too much. Take Transition to High School Summer Course. Four day course offered various times this Summer. Where Can I Get Help? Resource Study Hall: Staffed by an educational assistant. 1:10 ratio. Needs administrator/counselor approval. ITI: Available for students with an IEP or a 504 plan One-on-One assistance from individual teachers: Make personal contact to determine availability Student Services : Meet with your counselor to discuss problems you may be having and brainstorm ideas for solutions.
