Know: How does the earth recycle? Evidence: 1. Draw diagram showing how recycling in an ecosystem is limited. Evidence 2: Draw water Cycle (pg. 724 textbook) Recycling Matter in Ecosystems Date: 11/26/12 pg 55-56

Clarifying ?s Water Cycle Process Information Continuous process where H 2 O moves from Earth’s surface to atmosphere and back. 1) Evaporation – Liquid H 2 O absorbs energy and changes to gas H 2 O. 2) Condensation – H 2 O gas (vapor) changes into liquid – droplets collect around dust particles in air to form clouds. 3) Precipitation (rain) – As H 2 O gas (vapor) condenses the cloud grows larger/heavier, then falls back to earth.

Nitrogen Cycle Free Nitrogen in Air Bacteria releases nitrogen Decomposers break down waste returns to soil Consumer eats nitrogen in plants Bacteria in root nodules fix free nitrogen into compounds

Dispersal How? Limits Organisms moving from one place to another 1.Wind/H 2 O- Wind blows seeds, fly, spiders, spores. 2.Other living things- People move plants/animals Native species- naturally live in the area Ex. Evergreen trees Exotic/Invasive species – carried to new location. Ex. Blackberries 1. Physical barriers- H 2 O, mountains, deserts are hard to cross. 2. Competition- New organism have to find niche to survive. 3. Climate- Temperature determines if species can survive.

Summary Evidence: 1. Draw a picture showing the ways recycling is limited in an ecosystem. 2. Draw Water Cycle (TB pg 724)
