The Order of the Universe
2
Lets start with our Earth. We are one planet in a solar system with one star- our sun. We have seven other planets in our solar system and one asteroid belt. NOT TO SCALE!!!
3
Earth & moon Solar System- Includes planets & Asteroid belt
4
On the outskirts of our solar system you find the Kuiper belt and Oort cloud. This is where comets come from and most dwarf plants are. Planets- Asteroid belt inside Kuiper Belt Oort Cloud

6
Billions of stars around us form the Milky Way Galaxy. We have found over 1000 Solar Systems around us in our galaxy. Every star you see in the sky is in the Milky Way. We have not been outside the Milky Way, but we know what it looks like from the other galaxies around us.
8
In the center of the Milky Way galaxy, the billions of starts are rotating around a “super-massive black hole.” Our solar system is not close enough to get pulled into the black hole.
9
Earth & Moon Solar System- (planets & asteroid belt) Milky Way Galaxy Oort Cloud and Kuiper Belt- (comets & dwarf planets)
10
We have several galaxies with us in the local group, including Andromeda- a galaxy moving toward us. We won’t collide with it for billions of years

12
We have billions of galaxies in our universe, ALL with billions of stars. We can see this with the Hubble telescope. This image is from just a 1 inch square in the sky. In that tiny amount of sky, we can see over 2000 galaxies These galaxies go back 13.2 billion years.

This picture shows how much of the universe we have mapped. The bluer the color, the colder it is. Sometimes only a few degrees above absolute zero. Video: How we map the UniverseHow we map the Universe
