Assessment Levels are being removed July 2015 will be the last year ‘Levels’ are used at the end of Key Stages No official guidance on what will replace the levels

Assessment As far as we know beyond July 2015… SATs are staying for the end of both key stages KS1 Combination of teacher assessments and national tests (marked in school) for Reading and Writing Inclusion of a Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar test for Y2 in 2016 Phonics screening in Y1 will continue

Content: English Language word classes and the grammatical functions of words, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, articles the features of different types of sentence, including statements, questions and commands, and how to use them for example, imperatives in commands. the grammar of complex sentences, including clauses, phrases and connectives.

Content: Vocabulary/language strategies to broaden their vocabulary and use it in inventive ways to proofread – check the draft for spelling and punctuation errors, omissions and repetitions.

Content: Spelling. All classes have spellings to learn. The curriculum is now phased with year 3/ 4 as lower KS2 and year 5/ 6 as upper KS2. All children must know how: to sound out phonemes to analyse words into syllables and other known words to apply knowledge of spelling conventions to use knowledge of common letter strings, visual patterns and analogies to check their spelling to revise and build on their knowledge of words and spelling patterns.

Content: punctuation… to use punctuation marks correctly in their writing, including full stops, question and exclamation marks, commas, inverted commas, and apostrophes to mark possession and omission. At a basic level all children should at least be able to use capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks correctly. (lv2)
