Math Boot Camp (algebra) Learning Targets nothing officially connected to the AP curriculum, however you will need to be able to do this “stuff”

Direct vs. Indirect Direct relationship: As one quantity increases/decreases, another does the same thing Indirect (inverse) relationship: As one quantity increases/decreases, another decreases/increases (opposite). Oftentimes we are called on to discuss/justify the changes in one quantity based on the changes of another

What does it look like?

Symbolic Algebra some problems may need to be solved without any numerical givens Instead of saying: A car increases its velocity from 3m/s to 6m/s in 3s... The problem will state: A car increases its velocity from v o to v over time t...

Symbolic Algebra Practice

Equation Creation Creating equations/expressions is a combination of all of the skills we have looked at today. We might need to create “new” equations from clues in the text or we may need to combine some of our equations to make “new” equations that help us to solve the problem

Equation Creation Guided Practice Create an equation using the following letters: A, B, C, and D D has a direct relationship to the product of A and B and an indirect relationship to C

Create an Equation Independent Practice 1) Period (T) has an inverse relationship with frequency (f): Write an expression for Period in terms of frequency 2) Centripetal Acceleration (a c ) has an inverse relationship with radius (r) and a direct squared relationship with velocity (v): Write an expression for centripetal acceleration in terms of velocity and radius 3) Electrical Power (P) is directly related to the product of current (I) and voltage (V): Write an expression for Voltage in terms of Power and Current
