The Application Process: When to apply? Keep in mind that schools generally know how many openings they have for the next school year beginning in March. Apply early! Full-time currently enrolled in a credential program: Up to 3 months before applying for credential to CTC Typically, during last student teaching assignment Full-time w/o credential (Alternative Certification): Completed Bachelor’s degree w min. 2.7 GPA Meet Basic Skills requirement, typically, by passage of CBEST

The Application Process: How to apply? Experience – must match resume Teaching and non-teaching Paid and unpaid References (will need email address of each) Required for EVERY experience for the last 3 years If non-education based, must be from immediate supervisor If education based, must be from the Principal Must utilize District e-reference form to ensure confidentiality LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION ARE NOT CONSIDERED AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL

Documents to upload: Resume Basic Skills Exam (e.g., CBEST) Subject Matter Competence (e.g. CSET, Subject Matter Exam, Waiver or NCLB Verification) OFFICIAL Bachelor's Degree Transcripts OFFICIAL Graduate Transcripts Other OFFICIAL Transcripts (e.g., Junior College, etc.) Teaching Credential University Internship Letter U.S. Constitution Exam

I’ve submitted my application, what’s next? Once submitted, you should receive an automated email indicating that the application is complete and has been submitted (new apps only) Over 10,000 applications a year received Applications are processed by anticipated district need and selection criteria and are on file for one calendar year Once your application is processed, you will receive an email regarding your next steps in the application process

I’ve submitted my application, what’s next? The eligibility interview process for full-time teacher consists of: Formal interview Sample Teach (12-minute sample lesson) Writing sample (online)

What about applying for substitute teaching? Same online application as full-time teaching Substitute applications are typically considered between August through January Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree GPA 2.7 or higher Basic skills requirement (e.g., CBEST)

SAMPLE TEACH 12 minute lesson from start to finish Clear beginning, middle and end Lesson Plan Standards based Identify age group, subject, topic Lesson objective clear enough to be achieved in the time frame Check for understanding Consult and rehearse with a mentor teacher

Interview To-Do’s Before the interview: Practice interview multiple times Identify your intentions, your skills, objectives, and important values…know yourself Choose and prepare your wardrobe Get adequate rest Allow ample travel time and know where to park Be early
