What is the Community Fund for Canada’s 150 th ? 2 Community Fund for Canada’s 150 th The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th is a granting program that will support community initiatives across Canada, with the participation of the Government of Canada and private philanthropists. This an opportunity to flow-through funds and enhance granting and community impact, rather than an endowment-building opportunity.

3 Community Fund for Canada’s 150 th Under the Fund, we have an opportunity to make Canada’s 150 th anniversary of Confederation all about community, by granting to projects that: BUILD vibrant and healthy communities with the broadest possible engagement of all Canadians, including indigenous peoples, groups that reflect our pluralism, official language minorities, and youth. INSPIRE a deeper understanding about the people, places and events that shape our communities and our country. ENCOURAGE participation in community initiatives, activities and events to mark the 150 th anniversary of Confederation. What are the Fund’s objectives?

The Fund’s Legacy: Community Impact 4 Community Fund for Canada’s 150 th Through thousands of initiatives from all parts of Canada, community foundations have an opportunity to create: BELONGING. Greater engagement and sense of belonging to our communities and our country. INCLUSION. Inclusion of Canadians from all walks of life. RECONCILIATION. Meaningful reconciliation between Indigenous peoples and all Canadians CONNECTION. Stronger connection and support within and between our communities.

Eligibility Criteria 5 Community Fund for Canada’s 150 th A.Eligible projects must work towards the Fund’s objectives of encouraging participation, inspiring understanding, and building vibrant and healthy communities with the engagement of all Canadians B.Eligible recipients must be qualified donees based in Canada, and eligible projects must take place in Canada C.Eligible projects must demonstrate an ability to match the value of the grant requested, through in-kind or cash contributions D. Eligible projects must commit to completing funded activities and expenditures before January 31, 2018

How can our community foundation participate? 8 Community Fund for Canada’s 150 th The Fund will match (up to 1:1) dollars that a community foundation grants towards projects that align with the Fund’s requirements, timelines, and processes. Participating community foundations are required to: Communicate the opportunity within the community; Use the Fund’s digital platform to accept and review grant applications Grant to successful local projects, through contributions from the community foundation as well as the match (up to 1:1) from the Fund Share local success stories

9 How much can we match from the Fund? Community Fund for Canada’s 150 th Every community foundation has a ‘reference level’ of the total amount that can be matched from the Fund for local grants. Our community foundation currently has the opportunity to match (1:1) up to $x from the Fund, for a total pool of up to $x in local granting under the Fund’s requirements: 5K (PCF) 5K (Fund) 10K (Final Amount Granted) 10K (Match in cash or in kind from Grant Recipient) Reference Level

The Granting Process – 3 Windows 10 CFC anticipates 3 periods during which grant applications can be submitted and reviewed: Each CF will have access to an allocation from the Fund. Our community foundation can determine which cycle(s) work best for our granting and matching processes. Public calls for applications (~4 weeks) CF-led Review Period (~4 weeks) National Review Committee (~1 week) Grant Agreements, Cheques to CFs for granting 1April 2016May 2016June 2016 2 September – October 2016 October – November 2016 November 2016December 2016 3 January – February 2017 February – March 2017 March 2017April 2017 Community Fund for Canada’s 150 th

Requirements for Participation 11 Community Fund for Canada’s 150 th To begin participating with the Fund, interested community foundations are required to: -Sign and adhere to the ‘Agreement for Collaboration’ -Use the Fund’s application form, digital platform, and timelines to select and approve grants -Match dollars (at least 1:1) from the Fund, and deliver the selected grants in their local communities.
