Natural Resource

INTRODUCATION Just take a second and think about the food you eat and the clothes you wear. Where do those items come from? How do they arrive to you? How do they change from a natural resource into an item that can be used by people?

How do we use Natural Resources? We use natural resources in three different ways:  Renewable Resources  Flow Resources  Non-Renewable Resources

Natural Resources Natural resources are items that you find in nature that you think it’s useful or valuable. They are very important in our daily lives, they help our needs and wants. There are three categorise of natural resources  Renewable Resources  Flow Resources  Non-Renewable resources

Examples of Natural Resources

Types of Natural Resources  Renewable Resources  Flow Resources  Non-Renewable

Renewable Resource Renewable Resources are resources that can replace themselves as long as we us them carefully. Trees, crops, fish stocks, and soil are all examples of renewable resources because they can replace themselves. If we cut trees to build houses, buildings, and make paper and difference items, new trees can grow. But that takes time and we have to use them carefully and avoid overusing them.

Examples Renewable Resources Crops Soil Tree Fish Stock

Flow Resource Flow Resources is a resource that must be used up when and where it is found or it is lost. Wind, ocean currents, flowing rivers, and streams and sunlight are all Flow resources. Flow resources moves all around the place because of natural action in the environment. Flow resources have to be used where they are found as they cannot be captured or stored.

Examples of Flow Resource Sunlight Flowing River Wind Stream Ocean Currents

Non-Renewable Resource Non-Renewable Resource is a resource that is limited and cannot be replaces if it is used up. When we us those resources it gone. They cannot be replaced. Non-Renewable resource include minerals, such as gold, iron, and nickel, and fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, natural gas, they are all example of Non-Renewable resource. These resources take thousands maybe millions of years to be ready to use.

Example of Non-Renewable Resources Iron Nickel Gold

Sustainability Sustainability describes an approach to using resources in a way that does not use them up or destroy them for a long time.

Importance of Sustainability Think of more Sustainability ways we can use natural resources. That means using resources in a ways that we do not use them in up or destroy them for a long period of time. For example, rotating crops. When farmers rotate their crops, they grow different plants in the same place in the following years. That uses different kinds of nutrients in the soil and it helps to preserve the land. Sustainability action could be challenging as it often involve complex between resources, people and places.

Definitions  Natural Resource: something found in nature that people find useful or valuable, such as trees, fruit, fish, clean air, and copper.  Renewable Resource: a resource that can regrow or reproduce as long as it is not over used.  Flow Resource: a resource that must be used up when and where it is found or it is lost.  Non-Renewable Resource: a resource that is limited and cannot be replaced if it is used up.  Sustainability: describes an approach to using resources in a way that does not se them up or destroy them for a long time.
