Course Expectations This course is designed for students who successfully completed Math 2. Math 3 is a mixture of the traditional courses of Geometry and Algebra 2. Students will be expected to use and apply the operations of polynomials, apply linear and non-linear functions and relations, and to model and apply geometric and trigonometric functions. Students will be expected to recognize potential problems, analyze errors, solve problems proficiently, and use complex reasoning. There will be an End of Course Exam at the end of this course which will count 25% of each student’s final semester grade.

Students are encouraged and expected to ask questions, volunteer for open discussion and complete all classwork during class

Warm-Ups Warm up problems begin our class daily. Students should begin working on the warm up problems as soon as they enter the room. Students have about 5 – 10 minutes in order to complete the warm up. While working on the warm up, homework must be on each student’s desk ready to be checked.
9
Homework Homework is assigned every day and most weekends. It is very important that all students complete the homework to the best of his or her ability. Students must attempt every problem. Incomplete homework is not accepted and will be marked as zero. The answers do not have to be done correctly to receive full credit. Students must simply show effort on ALL problems which involves at least copying down the problem and attempting to solve by showing some work.
10
Classwork/ALEKS There will be a variety of classwork assignments throughout the semester normally 4-5 per week. Some assignments will be collected and graded for accuracy; others may be graded for participation or completion. At least one classwork grade will also be assigned each week for each student’s progress on the ALEKS online mathematics program. ALEKS will also be graded in a variety of ways. Students may have to complete a specific amount of time in the program for the week, they may have objective goals to master or complete before the end of the week, or simply have a progress assessment as the weekly grade.
11
Late or Absent Work Students may turn in assignments completed two weeks past the due date after that the assignment is a 0. If the assignment is turned in one week past the due date the highest grade that the assignment can receive is 70% credit. If the assignment is turned in the second week past the due date the highest grade that the assignment can receive is 60% credit If a student is absent they will have five school days to make up the work for full credit only if they are absent due to an excused absence that is not a school related absence. Otherwise the assignments are due the day that they return to school to receive full credit. Homework is an essential component to success in this class.
12
Tests/Quizzes Quizzes are normally given at least one time per week. Tests are usually given once per unit. If you are absent the day of a test or quiz, you will take it the day that you return from your absence or at the next tutoring/quiet power session. There will be a county mandated final exam at the end of this course that will count as 25% of your final semester average.
13
Projects Projects may count as a test grade or quiz grade and will have one letter grade deduction for each day that passes the due date.
14
Tutoring Every Monday during POWER Block A Every Thursday during POWER Block B POWER is mandatory for students with a grade of 74% or lower Always welcomed to POWER
