The Four Noble Truths First Noble Truth: Life is suffering Second Noble Truth: Suffering is caused by craving and desire Third Noble Truth: Suffering can be overcome & happiness can be attained Fourth Noble Truth: Following the 8-Fold Path is the way to end suffering

8-Fold Path Wisdom 1. Right Understanding – Accepting Buddhist teachings Practice them & judge their validity; do not follow blindly 2. Right Intention – commitment to promote right attitudes and rid themselves of qualities that are wrong or immoral.

8-Fold Path Ethical Conduct 3. Right Speech – speaking truthfully Avoiding gossip, slander, and abusive speech 4. Right Action – Behaving peacefully and harmoniously 5. Right Livelihood – Avoid making a living in ways that cause harm to others Meat production; dealing in weapons, drugs, alcohol
