2 Definition Professional socialization is a process through which people learn, during their education and training, the skills, knowledge, values, behaviors and attitudes needed to take up their professional role.

3 Types of socialization: Formal socialization involves planned experiences, such as performing physical assessments, developing nursing diagnoses, and client teaching. Informal socialization involves lessons learned incidentally while functioning as a nurse.

4 Factors affecting on socialization process 1. Professional socialization involves changing people's attitudes, values, beliefs and self images, as well as providing skills and knowledge according to the objective of an organization.

5 2. Students can bring varying conceptions of work requirements, and interests which may or may not be compatible with the objectives of the program. These two factors : objectives of the program and orientations brought by students - join to create a variety of problems and potential conflicts in the socialization process.

6 Ways to take responsibility for Professional Socialization: 1. separate thinking process from task oriented nursing and move toward decision-making and problem oriented patient care.

7 2. You should not limit yourself to providing basic care and seeking help from other nurses. You need to realize that your professional socialization as a nurse includes formal lessons, informal types of learning and a change in the way you view yourself

8 3. self-image and personality play an active part in professional socialization and can be improved. self-image influences nurses behavior in the nursing field. How nurse view his/her self is how others will view you as well.

9 Nursing organizations ICN The International Council of Nurses (ICN) is a federation of more than 130 national nurses associations (NNAs), representing the more than 13 million nurses worldwide. Founded in 1899, ICN is the world ’ s first and widest reaching international organization for health professionals.

10 ICN is operated by nurses and leading nurses internationally, ICN works to ensure quality nursing care for all, sound health policies globally, the advancement of nursing knowledge, and the presence worldwide of a respected nursing profession and a competent and satisfied nursing workforce.

11 Iraqi Nursing Syndicate ( INS): Is established in 1959 primarily for female nurses only, then its work was stopped for political causes. The reactivation of its tasks after 2003 For male and female nurses National election was done for selecting the president and the administration committee in 2004. the election process was supported and supervised by WHO.

12 INS is operated by nurses and leading nurses nationally, INS works to: -Ensure quality nursing care for individuals. families, and community in Iraq. -Has a sound in health policies nationally. -The development of nursing services in Iraq. -The presence of national respected nursing profession. - A competent and satisfied nursing workforce.
