The HEART of NSBE Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) Is to increase elementary school students’ aptitude in math and science and their interest in pursuing STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) career fields, by having them engage in interactive, team-based engineering projects. A free three-week program targeting students in grades 3-5. APPLY TO BE A SEEK MENTOR FOR NEXT SUMMER!!! Applications open at the beginning of October! Signature Programs

12. The HEART of NSBE NSBEprenuer Training Institute- The primary focus is on creating technical companies through offering training for current and prospective business owners. Elevator Pitch and Business Plan Competitions- Gives members the opportunity to present a Business Plan to panels of experts who can offer feedback and guidance. Signature Programs

13. The HEART of NSBE TORCH STEM Community Training- Formal classroom style education in STEM fields aimed at both youth and adults. Informal Science and Engineering Education- Casual outreach activities, targeted at youth, which aim to show how science and engineering can be fun. A Walk for Education- A single day outreach activity aimed at encouraging youth to be better prepared for higher educational opportunities in STEM fields, and in general. Technical Expertise Services- Using our technical skills to provide a direct service to the community. Traditional Community Service Activities- Any other type of community service: food or clothing drives, volunteering at a shelter, etc. Signature Programs

14. The HEART of NSBE Retention Program To improve the graduation rates of Blacks in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This will be the umbrella for three different programmatic pieces designed for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. – Freshmen- successfully matriculate into a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) major for their sophomore year. – Sophomores- interaction with faculty and staff, personal development and leadership opportunities, and career path development. – Juniors- preparation for graduate school admissions and/or entry into the engineering industry, increased performance on the GRE, and opportunities for volunteer, educational, and paid experiences in engineering.
