Yammer 101 Event Planning with Yammer Marina Hogan, Yammer Champ, Microsoft
10
What is Yammer ? Yammer is Microsoft’s Enterprise Social Networking tool that allows users to Collaborate, Connect & Coordinate. Yammer can also help plan and host events. This presentation will give you a brief Yammer 101 and some tips on how you can use Yammer at all stages of the Event: prior to, during, and post.
11
Four Key Yammer Pages: 1. Home Feed
12
2. Inbox
13
3. Groups
14
4. Your Profile Page
15
Yammer Group Creation Steps 1. Create the Event Planning group 1a. Find Groups in left navigation and click on the “+” to the right 1b. OR, Find and click on the ellipsis in upper right corner Select Groups 2.Click on Create New Group button 3.Fill out the form and select Public or Private
16
To kick off planning phase Add all stakeholders (organizing team, speakers) as members of the Event Planning Yammer group. Click in the text box to post a comment (initiate a new conversation) in the group. This is the “real-time” element of Yammer where general conversation occurs. Upload relevant event planning Files to the Files Tab. Files can then be accessed by all group members. This could be useful for budget spreadsheets, communication calendars, presentations etc… The files can be viewed and edited in the Files Tab. Create a Note in the Notes Tab. Up to 12 people can collaborate in a Note at one time. Useful for meeting minutes, brain-storming/decision making/list creation. When Event plans are finalized, Files and Notes can be Marked as Official by the Group Admin.
17
Yammer: Prior to the Event Create Event Yammer Group some weeks prior to the Event. Your Yammer group will be more successful if people are in the habit of using it, have a compelling reason to contribute and want to share with other group members. To help, design some pre-event experiences that help people engage with the group. Upload a photo of what you are packing/Ask questions of each other, share stories, successes and challenges If people coming from out of town, arrange fitness groups, events post event using Notes and Files. Share Event information in the Group in the weeks prior to the Event. Define a comms calendar to keep people up-to-date with event logistics, Event speakers/presenters Select Event Group Community Managers as Yammer Group Admins. Identify Key Influencers to help promote the Event and encourage engagement in the Event Yammer Group. Ask the influencers to post during the event, to encourage people to discuss the event.
18
Yammer: Prior to the Event Presenters/Speakers: It can really encourage engagement if they participate in the Yammer group, introducing themselves, answering questions that may arise during the day. Ask them to promote Yammer during their talks, to encourage people to discuss topics during the event. Yammer training amy be required. Decide on Event competitions- essential for Group Engagement during the Event. Examples of competitions : photo of the day, most liked post, questions on event content. Yammer Mobile App : Share information on the Yammer Mobile Apps. The mobile app is essential for Yammer communications at Events, for posting conversations, adding photos etc… Also great for competitions !! The Apps are simple to install and use. Windows Phone 8 Android iOS
19
Yammer: During the Event Have Yammer Group Admins on-site to do the following: Assist attendees with Yammer queries Use the Yammer Group to announce all Event logistics and the agenda during the day. Run the competitions, announcing winners during the event. Use Feedfall.com (Yammer display tool) displayed in common areas. Encourage conversations in the Yammer Event group. Ask key members to yam during the day into the Event group. This is really valuable because it 1) helps create a common consciousness about the content 2) helps stimulate discussion during and after 3) helps preserve content for posterity and for those who may not be able to attend. Remind speakers to mention the Yammer group at the beginning of their sessions; asking attendees to go to the group, share their reaction to the presentation, add notes to the group, ask questions if needed.
20
Yammer : After the Event As mentioned earlier, ensure you have a clear plan of how long the community (Network/Group) will stay open and what happens next. Transition members to your permanent communities, figure out how to help people retain content from the event community. Use the community to communicate post-event recaps, deliver attendee surveys, etc. Encourage people to post photos and videos to help people relive their experience together after they leave the event. Encourage the building of relationships post-event.
