All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 2 ALSMS Upgrade Configuration Example This configuration example assumes that you already have an existing ALSMS installation. What’s in this configuration example; Backing up existing configuration Obtaining installation keys Upgrading the ALSMS Software Pushing the upgrade out to all of your Bricks

All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 3 About Backups It’s always a good idea to backup your existing configuration before making any changes. The ALSMS if left at default configuration will backup your configuration nightly at 2:00 am. These next slides will walk you through a manual backup. If you check and did have a backup last night and feel comfortable that this is current enough you can skip these slides showing the manual backup. To check when your automatic backups are done to Start>All Programs>Alcatel-Lucent Security Management Server>Utilities>ALSMS Schedule Editor. This will display the following window.

All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 4 Checking your Backup Note the wild cards (*) in Yr, Mon, Day. Note the Hr (hour) of the backup. If you are comfortable that this is current enough you don’t need to do another backup manually now. If you feel you need a more current backup proceed to the next slide.

All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 5 Let’s do a manual backup on our LSMS now. First step is to open Windows Explorer and create a new folder called “lsms_backup” Next open a Command Prompt window from Start>Run>CMD. Change your directory to the install directory of the LSMS by typing: cd \users\isms\lmf Backup Procedure
6
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 6 Type local\bin\backup c:\data\lsms_backup. This should be the directory where you created the folder lsms_backup. Your screen should look like the one below. Backup Procedure

All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 7 Obtaining Installation Keys There are two types of keys associated with the ALSMS Software. There is a “Software License key” and an “Installation key”. You received the software upgrade license key with your new software. You will find it on the CD Rom case that the software came in. You will use this key to register the product and to obtain the “installation key”, which is required to perform the installation. The next few slides will walk you through the registration process. Please have your software license key ready as you will need it to obtain the installation key. Open your web browser and go to https://www.lucent-ipsec.comhttps://www.lucent-ipsec.com

All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 8 Obtaining Installation Keys If you are already a registered user fill in your user name and password to login. If you have forgotten your password click on “Forgot Password” These slides will show the process for an existing user. If you are installing ALSMS for the first time see the configuration example titled “Installing the ALSMS Configuration Example”.
9
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 9 Obtaining Installation Keys First click on “Registered Keys” and print out the list of keys that you already have registered. This will help you with the dependencies of new keys. Keys are dependant on one another. In other words if you have an ALSMS 8.0 running, your upgrade key will be dependant on that license key. You will see this option when you enter your new key. Click on “Register New Keys”.
10
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 10 Obtaining Installation Keys When you enter your upgrade key in the registration system you will be asked what key this upgrade “depends on”. If you are unsure what key to select in the “depend on” field go to your ALSMS and select “Help>About”. This is the key that you want to your upgrade key to depend on. This is an important step. The key shown in the “Install key” field is the one that you want your upgrade key to depend on.
11
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 11 Obtaining Installation Keys There is one more step here. Look at the key in the field on the bottom of the screen. This is the “Install key” for the current software. Take this key and look at your print out of registered keys. Reference this key to the “license Key” on your print out. Circle that license key. You will pick that key from the drop down box on the next page.
12
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 12 Obtaining Installation Keys When creating dependencies between keys you want to enter your new key, then from the drop down box select the key that this key depends. You want this key to depend on the key that is actually running on your ALSMS Server right now. You just circled it on your print out. Select that key. Click “Register Key”
13
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 13 Obtaining Installation Keys Once you’ve entered all of your new keys click on “Registered Keys” and print out an updated list of all of your keys. This will come in handy as you do the actual upgrade to the ALSMS. When doing the upgrade you will use the “Install Keys” that you just got during the registration process. When you are done, log out of the registration system. You are now ready to do the actual ALSMS upgrade. In this example we will upgrade an existing ALSMS running version 8.0 directly to ALSMS version 9.1 on a Windows XP platform.
14
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 14 Upgrading The ALSMS You’ve got a fresh backup from the slides in the beginning of this deck. You’ve registered your new keys and now have “installation keys”. Go to the ALSMS and load the CD with your new revision of the ALSMS software. The directions on the screen during the installation are pretty clear. There is more detail in the “Installation Guide” found on your CD or from “Help>Online Product Manuals” in your ALSMS navigator. Summary of installation: Browse and accept the terms and conditions. Type in your new install key. It will be on the top right of your print out. Select folder or default
15
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 15 Upgrading The ALSMS Summary of installation continued: Select “OK” to upgrade Select web server configuration of HTTP or HTTPS and port 80 or 443. Select “Primary ALSMS” Assuming you know your password, select “Normal Upgrade” Type in login and password Congratulations your ALSMS software upgrade is complete. At this point you will “push” your upgrade out to all of the Bricks on your network.
16
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 16 Pushing your upgrade to your Bricks At this point your LSMS has been updated, but the software has not been downloaded to the Bricks yet. You have many options with regard to downloading the software to the Bricks. The important things to note are: The download happens over an encrypted link The Bricks will require a reboot to run the upgraded software. This can happen automatically. Reboot time is less than one minute, but needs to be considered. A pair of redundant Bricks can be upgraded individually to prevent any downtime.
17
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 17 Pushing your upgrade to your Bricks If you want to download the software to individual Bricks Double Click on the Bricks folder, then Right Click on the Brick that you want to download the new software to and select Software Download. If you want to download to multiple Bricks at the same time see the next slide.
18
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 18 Pushing your upgrade to your Bricks Right Click on the Bricks folder. Select from the three options. “Software Download for multiple Bricks” will download to select groups of Bricks or all Bricks, but will not reboot the Brick at this time. If you choose this option you will then use the second option “Reboot Multiple Bricks” at a later time. The third option will both do the download and do the reboot as soon as the download is complete.
19
All Rights Reserved © Alcatel-Lucent 2008 19 Pushing your upgrade to your Bricks Any of the three options will give you the same pop up window. However it is configured differently based on which option you pick. Notice the options near the bottom for rebooting a redundant pair of Bricks. If you reboot the active Brick after the download the Standby Brick will take over and the network will stay up. After you have completed the download to both Bricks reboot the (new) active Brick to complete the operation.
