Reflection The architecture field is extremely competitive which can make it difficult to find work – especially when a large number of commissions come from competitions. Budget often dictates design, aesthetics, and/or sustainability. Language barriers slow down many of the firm’s operations. European management supervising Vietnamese employees highlights cultural differences in the workplace between European and Asian staff members. Construction methods limit what gets produced; Asian building techniques not the same as European methods. Doing competitions on the side is a way for lower-level employees to practice and hone design skills.
