3. Purpose To provide information about Norwin’s Title I Program for all parents.

4. #3: Title I Program O What is Title I? O Federal funds to provide programs to help children who are struggling in reading and math. O Provides help in addition to what they learn during reading time in the classroom. O This funding is provided under No Child Left Behind. O Recent changes at the Pennsylvania Department of Education level have created more flexibility yet more accountability for Title I schools.

O 82% - feel welcomed and respected at the school for parent meetings or activities O 80% - feel the school provides adequate opportunities for parent involvement O 83% - feel they have been kept informed of activities at school

11. Parent Involvement Needs O 37% have taken the opportunity to request or borrow materials from the Title I teachers O 23% initiated contact with the Title I teacher regarding their child’s progress O 85% reported that they communicated with teachers mostly through email

12. What Parents Can Do? O Continue to hold high expectations for your children and their school. O Volunteer through the PTA O Serve on the Title I Parent Advisory Council O Attend Title I events O Read, read, read with your children O Communicate often with your children’s teachers.

13. #6: Parents’ Rights under NCLB O Highly Qualified Teachers – You can request to know at any time. O You will be notified if your child is taught for more than 20 consecutive days by a teacher who is not highly qualified. O You may request a meeting with any staff member to discuss concerns and make suggestions. O You have the right to participate in decisions relating to the education of your child. O You are encouraged to review the annual application for Title I and make suggestions. O Knowing the achievement data of the schools and children.
