1 Greece and Italy Presented by : Antoinette, Natsuki, Natsuko, and Mikang

2 History of Italy  Italy was only used in the extreme south- the toe of the peninsula.  In the first century B.C, Italy was under control of a single power.  Italy is known from about the first century B.C.  1861, the peninsula becomes a political entity.  Around 700 B.C, the majority of the tribes arrived in Italy. Either by land from the North or by sea across the Adriatic.

3 Italy’s landmarks  The picture in the next slide is called The Castel Sant'Angelo.  A huge fortress in Rome, Italy. Built in 139 A.D, as a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian.

5 Other Landmarks  Chamber of Deputies  Lower house of Italy’s parliament.  seats for 630 deputies who are elected from throughout the country.  located in the Centre of Rome Italy.

7 Sports of Italy  Soccer, skiing, football, and golf.  Well known for the Winter Olympics.  The national team of Italy has won the world cup four times in 1934, 1938, 1982, and in 2006.  Italian’s national soccer team is popular for their blue shirts.  Other than soccer, water polo is popular for the old sports in Italy

9 Italy’s Economy  Italy is fairly diversified country in terms of economy.  Natural Resource: Fish and Natural gas  Agriculture: Wheat, Rice, Grapes, Olives, etc.  Industry: Tourism, Machinery, iron and steel, etc.

10 Government of Italy  Government type: Republic since June 2, 1946  President: at least 50 years old  Suffrage: Vote for House is universal over 18; vote for Senate is universal over 25 Mario Monti

12 Cultures of Italy  Italian Style: The concept of ‘bella figura’ or good image is important to Italians. They are extremely fashion conscious and judge people on their appearance

13 History of Greece Rich history and famous personalities. During the 2600-1500 B.C Greece gave birth to the great civilization of Minoan. Between 6 th -4 th centuries B.C Greece was the most famous worldwide. In Greece 6 th - 4 th B.C was the classical period and the peak of this period was in 5 th centuries B.C. This is called Athens. known for educated art and science. before the Peloponnesian war.

15  Karolos Papoulias is Greece’s president.  Elected since March 12, 2005.  Elected by 279 votes.  Parliamentary republic  Took independence in 1829 from the Ottoman Empire. KAROLOS PAPOULIAS

16  GDP: $312 billion.  Per Capita: $27,875.  Natural Sources: bauxite, lignite, magnetite, oil, and marble.  Agriculture: sugar beets, wheat, maize, tomatoes, olives, olive oil, grapes, raisins, wine, oranges, peaches, tobacco, cotton, livestock, dairy products, rice, figs.

17  Oldest form of entertainment in Greece.  Olympic games are held every four years in ancient Greece.  Today, most popular sports are tennis, golf, soccer, ice-hockey, and various kinds of water- sports This is used for Discus. This is made of stone. It’s weight from 5-10 pounds. Sports in Greece

18 Cultures in Greece  Very religious people.  Believed in many gods in human form.  Iliad and the Odyssey are the earliest examples of Greek literature.  painted scenes on vases, and stone, terracotta and bronze sculptures represent major gods and goddesses.
