5 OPAC or ONLINE CARD CATALOG is used to locate Books, Movies, eBooks and Audio Books in our library

6 THE ONLINE DATABASES give you access to a wealth of valid and scholarly information.

7 COMPUTERS and iPADS ARE TO BE USED TO SEARCH FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS or INTERNET USAGE FOR CLASS PROJECTS, PAPERS, ETC. ALL WORK DONE DURING CLASS MUST RELATE TO EDUCATION

8 Using the computers is a privilege. Students may not access their personal emails, Facebook, or other social networks during school hours except for class projects

10 BRIEFLY: *Cheating is any form of copying or receiving unauthorized assistance on an exam, paper (essay), homework or other assignment. *Plagiarism means to represent the words, language, ideas, or thoughts of another person as one’s own or original work.

11 Cheating and plagiarism are unethical and wrong. In order to help students avoid plagiarism and cheating, the library provides: Noodle Tools Citation Creator Infohio’s Research Project Calculator In-depth Research Tools for all Roger Bacon and Infohio Databases

12 Fiction books are invented by the author. Fiction books are arranged on the shelf in alphabetical order by the author’s last name. In our library all fiction is split between paperback, hardback, and young adult. Fiction is arranged in alphabetical order by the author’s last name

13 For Fiction, the sticker on the spine of the book contains the first 3 letters of the author’s last name.

14 Nonfiction books contain facts about real things, people, events and places. Nonfiction books are organized by their subject. Call numbers range from 0-999 and have the author’s last name with the numbers. The Roger Bacon Library uses the Dewey Decimal System

15 Call Numbers for Nonfiction look like this. The numbers on the top row of the label designate the subject (880 Greek Literature) The 3 letters designate the authors last name. PLA - Plato

16 Call Numbers for Biographies can look like this. Biographies are an exception. They are filed by the number for biographies 92. or in a separate section and have a capital B on the spine The letters designate the first 3 letters of the person the book is about. 19 REFERENCE BOOKS IN THIS AREA ARE NOT TO BE CHECKED OUT. THEY ARE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT USE WITHIN THE LIBRARY.

20 WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED WITH THE BOOKS YOU ARE USING, DO NOT PUT THEM BACK ON THE SHELVES. PLACE THEM ON THE COUNTER BY THE ATTENDANCE COMPUTER OR HAND THEM TO THE LIBRARIAN

21 Fines are levied on library books that are turned in late. The fine rate is set at $.10 per school day.

22 PAYMENTS FOR DAMAGE We use the word damage when any book has to be repaired or replaced. This replacement cost is charged to the student, since it was in their care when the damage occurred.

23 PAYMENTS FOR DAMAGE There are other ways students could be charged fines. These include but are not limited to: Rebind Charge = $11 Loss of Barcode in Book = $5 Water = Replacement Cost of Book (cost varies) Graffiti = Cost Varies (could be full replacement value)

24 LIBRARY POLICIES STUDENTS MUST USE THEIR STUDENT ID WHEN CHECKING INTO THE LIBRARY AND TO CHECK OUT BOOKS NO FOOD OR DRINKS, PLEASE BE COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES DURING THE SCHOOL DAY UNLESS USED FOR CLASS ASSIGNMENTS SHUT DOWN AND PLUG IN LAPTOPS WHEN FINISHED
