About Me Issaquah born & raised Product of ISD Middle child (2 sisters) Early Childhood & Elementary Education at Central Washington University 3 rd year at Challenger Elementary LOVE kindergarten, spending time with friends and family, hiking & shopping!

My Beliefs Kindergarten is the best! Instill a love of learning, respect for others and a belief that everyone is important Parent/teacher communication is key!

Writing Writing Workshop:-shared writing, interactive writing, independent writing, conferring weekly Handwriting Without Tears - letter formation (Uppercase, Lowercase, Numbers)

Communication Listening skills –”whole body listening” Talk and listen to your child daily Communication skills – expressing needs in appropriate ways, public speaking Please check folders DAILY!!! **Have your child practice taking folder & papers in/out of folder and backpack.**

Math Common core standards Geometry – identify, compare, compose shapes Number & Numeration sense- number names, sequence, count to tell how many, comparing numbers Operations & Computations- addition is putting together, subtraction is taking from Measurement – describe/compare measurable attribute

Math Workshop Problem-solving (perseverance), hands on exploration (model mathematical thinking) Using tools and strategies, checking work Revisiting of concepts through games and activities

Homework Showing content of folder to parents Telling about day Reading, reading, reading!!! Practice- tying shoes, putting lunchbox/folder in backpack, zipping/ unzipping coats… Monthly “homework” suggestions on Connect website

Report Cards Report cards go home Nov. 25th Kindergarten standards are online on the Issaquah School District Website

Conferences I will have a conference with each child’s parent, December 2-3 Sign-ups will be online this year. Children do not come to school on conference days.

Volunteering Classroom volunteering will begin mid- October to early November. Look for volunteer survey coming soon! Volunteer Training is Sept. 23 rd @ 10am in library If you plan on volunteering PLEASE try to attend. Privacy Policy-confidentiality

Washington State Patrol Form Needed for you to volunteer in our classroom Needed before you chaperone on a field trips Complete online (application on Challenger Website)

Emergency Supply Bags Please put together your child’s Emergency Supply Bag by Wednesday, Sept. 30 th -Non perishable food -MUST BE in provided bag -School appropriate

Art Docent Puts on age-appropriate art lessons Arranges a time with teacher Typically once a month DO NOT NEED ART BACKGROUND PTSA provides supplies and lessons More than one art docent per class is welcomed! Questions: Rachelle Roberts
