2 The First Tee Nationally The First Tee Nationally Founded in 1997 as an initiative of the World Golf Foundation Overseen by PGA Tour, LPGA, PGA of America, USGA, and The Masters Tournament

3 The First Tee Impacted 2.9 million young people since its inception 205 chapters in forty-nine states and five foreign countries with nearly 700 facilities Fourteen chapters in Texas. Dallas and Houston have multiple facilities.

4 Mission To impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character- development and life- enhancing values through the game of golf.

8 The First Tee of Fort Worth The First Tee of Fort Worth Lindy Miller Foundation for Junior Golf founded in 1996 Youth Sports Council of Fort Worth adopted program in 2002 Chartered by The First Tee in 2003 Board of Directors formed in 2004 Became our own 501(c)(3) in 2007 Local chapter funded through grants and contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations

9 Community Problem Community Problem 75% of students in FWISD are economically disadvantaged Typical urban problems with gangs, dropouts, teen pregnancy, drugs and alcohol TFT Life Skills curriculum developed by psychologists and youth development specialists helps combat risky behaviors

10 Impact – 2003-06 Research Impact – 2003-06 Research Scientific data-based evidence of the effectiveness of The First Tee as an exemplary youth development program. Strong positive impact on young people’s development of life skills and core values. Program is unique especially in the synergy among golf, the program delivery by coaches, the life skills curriculum and The First Tee Nine Core Values. The First Tee affirms values that are taught at home.

11 Impact – 2003-06 Research Impact – 2003-06 Research Life Skills Transfer: Youth in The First Tee scored higher than the comparison group on meeting and greeting, managing emotions, resolving conflicts, appreciating diversity, and getting help from others. General Life Skills Usage: Youth in The First Tee scored higher than the comparison group on goal setting, initiative, emotional regulation, prosocial norms, and positive relationships.

12 Impact – 2003-06 Research Impact – 2003-06 Research Developmental Outcomes: Youth in The First Tee scored higher than the comparison group on perceived academic competence (confidence), moral conduct (responsibility, honesty, integrity), self- efficacy to resist peer pressure (judgment), and preference for challenging skills (perseverance).

13 Programs and Services Programs and Services Over 1800 students in certified levels of Life Skills instruction in three sessions throughout the year Another 4500 students exposed in 2009 through TARGET programs offered in summer camps, schools, after-school programs and community centers Many TARGET program participants enroll in Life Skills Experience.

14 Instruction Instruction Instruction is staffed by combination of paid and volunteer instructors including members of the PGA/LPGA. Lead instructors attend The First Tee national Coach Training. Goal is one adult for every 6 children.

22 Campaign Goals To build a joint-use practice and learning center facility – Practice Facility opened in July, 2008. To create a home base for The First Tee of Fort Worth that is centrally located to its target audience of young people To build a first-class practice facility for the City of Fort Worth

24 Naming Gift To raise $1,500,000 to fund and endow the Ben Hogan Learning Center. $500,000 naming gift pledged by Ben Hogan Foundation.
