Photo taken 8/2/08 in Ocean Beach, California Features which aid in the process of relative dating: This photo features an unconformity And inclusions An unconformity is created when deposition ceases and then is followed by a long period of erosion. Then when deposition continues the new sediments are deposited upon the eroded landscape. The result of this process is an unconformity. (Tarbuck & Lutgens, 2008) Often when one sedimentary layer is laid upon another it will surround broken off fragments of the existing rock layer enclosing them within. This is Known as an inclusion.
