Major assignment Prepared by Ahmad Albalawi ID no: 123456789
2
Outlines Anthropometric measurements – Body Mass Index – Classification of Body Mass Index – Waist to Hip Ratio – Desirable Body Weight (Tanhauser’s method) – Total energy requirement based on level of physical activity
3
Table of grams of carbohydrates, protein and fat based on calorie needs
4
Anthropometric measurements Body Mass Index – Equation: weight in kilogram/height in meter square – Ahmad Albalawi’s weight is 55 kilograms and his height is 159 cm – Based on the equation above: Height must be changed to be in meters. 159/100=1.59 55/1.59*1.59= 55/2.52= 21.8
5
Classification of Body Mass Index – Ahmad’s Body Mass Index is 21.8 – The normal range is 18.5 to 24.9 – This means Ahmad Albalawi is within the normal range on the scale of Body Mass Index
6
Waist to Hip Ratio – The equation is: Waist circumference/Hip circumference in centimeter – This equation is very important because it gives an indication of the risk of abdominal obesity – Ahmad’s waist circumference is 75cm and his Hip circumference is 92cm: 75/92= 0.81 – 0.81 is below 1 which means Ahmad in in the normal range and is not at risk of obesity yet
7
Desirable Body Weight (DBW) (Tanhauser’s method) – The equation is as follows: – DBW (k) = height (cm) – 100 – Ahmad’s desirable body weight based on Tanhauser’s method is as follows: 159cm- 100= 59kilgrams
8
Total energy requirement based on level of physical activity – The equation is DBW (k) x level of Physical Activity – table of physical activity levels Activity level Bed rest (hospital patients) 27.5 Sedentary (mostly sitting) 30.0 Light (Tailor, Nurse, Physician, Jeepney driver) 35.0 Moderate (Carpenter, Painter, Heavy housework) 40.0 Very active (swimming, lumberman) 45.0 45.0
9
Ahmad is slightly active which means he usually go for some workout between 20 to 30 minutes – Based on the equation, Ahmad’s total energy requirement will be as follows: 59*35= 2065 Kcals per day
10
Table of the needs of carbohydrates, protein and fat – Standards of percents of carbohydrates, protein and fat for healthy individuals are as follows: Carbohydrates 60% Protein 20% Fat 20% – Ahmad’s need of calories is 2065 daily Calculation: – Carbohydrates: 60/100= 0.6*2065= 1239/4= 309.75 grams of carbohydrates
11
– protein 20/100= 0.2*2065= 413/4= 103.25 grams of protein – Fat 20/100= 0.2*2065= 413/9= 45.8 grams of fat Table of Ahmad’s needs of energy, carbohydrates, protein and fat EnergyFatProteinCarbohydrates 2065 Kcals per day45.8 grams103.25 grams309.75 grams
