4. Focus: Application of nuclear technology for assessing and responding to marine environment contamination Relevance: Nuclear techniques allow accurate and specific validation of contaminant transport model which is otherwise not often or not well done. Nuclear techniques provide a precise and cost-effective way to acquire site- specific contaminant dose-response data Conclusions: Accurate model validation is extremely important. IAEA/RCA is playing an important role in capability development and regional co-operation. Securing social acceptance of nuclear power plants and minimizing environmental impact are very important for sustainable socio-economic development Emerging issues: There are plans to construct many new NPPs in the region and marine monitoring capabilities need to be developed and improved. - Reported to the Plenary Session after the Conference and documented -
