Low Voltage Legislative Changes to Low Voltage Alarm Permits
20
Key Points in Florida Statute 553.793 regarding Low voltage alarm permits: Definition per 489.505 of low voltage alarm is any electrical device, signaling device used to detect burglary, fire, robbery, or medical emergency. This section does not apply to the installation or replacement of a Fire Alarm if a plan review is required. (Commercial Fire) Effective date –October 1 st, 2013. A local enforcement agency (Pasco County) shall make available a permit label for purchase for $55.00 for installation or replacement of an existing alarm system. Until January 1 st. 2015 permits that cost more than $55.00 can be charged at the usual amount up to $175.00. A local enforcement agency may not require a contractor, as a condition of purchasing a label, to submit information other than identification information of the licensee and proof of registration or certification as a contractor (No plans, address etc. required).
21
Key Points in Florida Statute 553.793 regarding Low voltage alarm permits: A label is good for one year. Must be posted in a conspicuous place before commencing work. Notice of commencement is not required. Contractor must notify Agency within 14 days of completing work filing a Uniform notice of low voltage alarm system project of completion. A local enforcement Agency (Pasco County) may take disciplinary action against a contractor who fails to timely submit a Uniform notice of low voltage alarm system project. A low voltage alarm system may be inspected by the Agency (County). If a low voltage alarm system fails an inspection, the contractor must take corrective action as necessary to pass. Basically for Pasco County this permit would be used for Commercial burglar alarm systems only as we do not permit low voltage residential electric.
