AS and A Level Chemistry New AQA Specification for teaching in 2015 Content largely unchanged although increased focus on mathematical skills Separate AS and A2 qualifications 2 externally examined papers in Year 12 – AS qualification 3 externally examined papers in Year 13 – A-Level qualification AS paper marks do not count towards the final A-Level qualification No separate Coursework Component There are 12 core practical tasks carried out throughout Y12 and Y13 – will contribute to a practical endorsement (pass/fail - how assessed?) Practical work is tested across all written papers and makes up a minimum of 15% of the final marks for the qualification Next Last

Course overview Strong team of experienced chemistry teachers. Chemistry teaching is divided between two teachers One teacher teaches 5 periods a fortnight and the second teacher 4 periods a fortnight Regular reviews take place throughout the year to monitor your progress and set targets to help your studies Extra classes run throughout the year to support student learning Theory is supported by extensive practical work On-line resources support learning within the department Next Last

Course overview Students entered for Schools’ Analyst competition run by the Royal Society of Chemistry. This involves a range of problem solving activities, for example forensic science investigations Pharmaceutical day at Huddersfield University Students entered for the Chemistry Olympiad organised by the royal society of chemistry Next Last
