New AS Levels and Two Year A Levels Co-teaching Both the new two year A-Levels and the corresponding new AS Levels having been allocated different QANs to those allocated to the qualifications they replace. The new AS Level and the corresponding new two year A- Level can be taught together, but where they are taught together it is the AS Level that should be reported in Census as the Learning Aim Awarding organisation can design the syllabus for the new AS Level to fit with the new two Year A Level, but they are not obliged to do so.

Please Note Unless otherwise stated these slides are describing the functionality after the SIMS Summer Release 2015 has been applied
9
New Levels and Nova-T6 Export to SQL 1.New Level is available for the new two year A-Level exams: code: GCE2Y description: GCE Advanced 2 Year Course. 2.Patch available for SIMS Spring Release 2015. 3.Patch incorporated into SIMS Summer Release 2015.
10
New Levels and Nova-T6 Export to SQL 4.We are also looking into providing a new Level for the new AS-Level exams. We expect that only a minority of customers will make use of the new Level code: GCAS1 description: GCE Advanced Subsidiary Revised 5.We could provide a patch for SIMS Spring Release 2015 and SIMS Summer Release 2015
11
After the patch or the Summer Release has been applied the new GCE2Y level can be obtained by Nova-T6 via Refreshing Base Data from SQL. You can choose to only obtain levels or to obtain levels as well as a number of other items, e.g. subjects.
12
Once the new level has been applied to classes the timetable can be copied to SQL and provided this is done before the start of the year, new courses will be created with the new level.
13
New Levels and Nova-T6 Export to SQL 6.If exports to SQL take place before the start of Academic Year 2015/16 and a new Level is used, a new Course container will be created with the new Level.
14
New Levels and Nova-T6 Export to SQL 7.If the first export to SQL using a new Level takes place after the start of Academic Year 2015/16, a new course container will not be created and the classes with the new Level will remain part of the course container they were attached to by the last export before the Academic Year started.
15
New Levels, Academic Management and Exams 1.If schools make use of a new Level for Nova-T6 export to SQL, they’re likely to have classes for a subject where the students are aiming for the old exam, i.e. retakes, and other classes for that subject where they are aiming for the new exam: This is fine if the teaching for the old exam is kept separate to that of the new exam
16
New Levels, Academic Management and Exams 1.If schools make use of a new Level for Nova-T6 export to SQL, they’re likely to have classes for a subject where the students are aiming for the old exam, i.e. retakes, and other classes for that subject where they are aiming for the new exam: This is fine if the teaching for the old exam is kept separate to that of the new exam However, if being taught together, this can course problems with registers, marksheets and reporting.
17
New Levels, Course Management and Exams Use of a new Level makes it considerably easier to manage courses and links to Exams: 1.The new exam for a subject will have a different QAN to the old exam for the subject 2.Initially schools might have some students taking a subject with the “old” QAN, i.e. a retake, and others taking the subject with the “new” QAN.
18
New Levels, Course Management and Exams Use of a new Level makes it considerably easier to manage courses and links to Exams: 3.Importing a new level into Nova-T6 and exporting classes with this level before the start the start of Academic Year 2015/16 means that different courses become available for the old and new levels for a subject: classes are linked automatically to the right courses the appropriate QAN can be indicated for the course the appropriate Exam Award can be indicated for the course.
19
New Levels and Course Management Support for two year courses has been improved: 1.Where the Normal Duration is set to “Two Years” the running of Update Course Memberships for the current Academic Year will result in the Planned End Date for memberships starting in that Academic to be modified to the 31 st July of the next Academic Year. 2.Memberships with Protect ticked will not have their end date changed 3.Where the Normal Duration is set to anything other than “Two Years”, Update Course Membership will operate as previously.
20
New Levels and School Census Autumn 2015 1.If a school decides not to make use of a new Level for export from Nova-T6 to SQL, they could subsequently decide to manually create a new course and populate the course by: removing classes from the “old” course and adding them to the “new” course (with Auto Update Class Links unticked and Auto Update Memberships ticked in both courses)

New Levels and School Census Autumn 2015 1.If a school decides not to make use of a new Level for export from Nova-T6 to SQL, they could subsequently decide to manually create a new course and populate the course by: removing classes from the “old” course and adding them to the “new” course (with Auto Update Class Links unticked and Auto Update Memberships ticked in both courses) marking students memberships as Exceptions (out) for the “old” course and adding them to the “new” course (either by ticking Protect for each membership or by unticking Auto Update Membership for the course).

Excepting in membership
28
New Levels and School Census Autumn 2015 2.We suggest using the class method described above when the students are never members of the course. however, if a school decides to use Exceptions in such a situation, it is important that a single day membership is left in place a single day membership will ensure that Update Course Membership does not remove the Exception a single day membership for an Exception will not be included in the Census.
