New Classes AP Research: 11 – 12, prerequisite is AP Seminar Technical Theatre: 9 – 12 (production, behind-the- scenes) Engineering Explorations I: 9 - 12 Engineering Studies: 11 - 12 Dual Enrollment Calculus: 11 – 12 (Germanna enrollment and placement test required) Prerequisite is DE Pre-Calc or Math Analysis AP Computer Science Principles: 9-12 prerequisite is completion of Algebra I

AP Capstone Program Model Students who earn scores of 3 or higher on the AP Seminar and AP Research Exams and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing will receive the AP Capstone Diploma™. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher on the AP Seminar and AP Research Exams only will receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™ AP Capstone Diploma ™ AP Research & Seminar Certificate ™ A two-course sequence that provides students with the critical thinking and research skills needed to succeed in college and stand-out in the admission process

Investigate real-world topics from multiple perspectives Carefully analyze information, write evidence-based arguments and effectively communicate them Work independently and with a team to research a topic, develop a written report and deliver a presentation AP Seminar – Started Fall 2015 Students learn how to: 1.Team Project & Presentation 25% 2. Individual Essay & Presentation 35% 3.Written Exam 40% Exam score based on: Teachers & Students select and study 2-4 topics. Example Topics Democracy Education Revolution Freedom Protest Technology Sustainability Taken in 10 th, 11 th, or 12 th grade.

Design, plan, and conduct a year-long mentored, research- based investigation Apply research methods and practices to address a real-world topic selected by the student Write a college-level research paper, present and orally defend the findings and research methodology AP Research – Starting Fall 2016 Students learn how to: 1.Research Process 15% 1.Academic Thesis Paper (~5,000 words) 70% 1.Public Presentation and Oral Defense 15% Exam score based on: AP Seminar is a prerequisite to AP Research.

Offers wide variety of training programs in such things as cosmetology, auto mechanics, robotics, nursing, and much more! There is an application that must be turned in for possible acceptance into the SCTC. Applicants are reviewed based on attendance, grades, and behavior. ALL applications for the Career & Technical Center must be filled out with your counselor during scheduling. Deadline is April 14. Nursing app deadline is April 28 ( placement testing is due before the deadline) Career/Technical Education

Scheduling Reminders Students may not schedule more than one non-credit course (study hall or aide position). Early release is available only to students who have scheduled a co-operative education course (Marketing, Business COE, Veterinary Science with COE, Horticulture with COE, or Agriculture with COE). Only Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses are weighted. Students may not schedule two new English classes during the same year!

Schedule Adjustments After the 2016 – 2017 school year begins, schedule changes will be made only under the following conditions: 1.Failure of a course which is a prerequisite for a scheduled course or graduation requirement. 2. Clerical error 3. Change in a program of studies. 4. Balancing of class sizes.
