9 Throughout the book, the setting is in numerous places, but the main location of action is in Devonshire, where Baskerville Hall is placed. This town is described as gloomy and dark at night, but during the day, the area seems to brighten a little bit. Setting “The driver pointed with his whip. ‘Baskerville Hall,’ said he… A few minutes later we had reached the lodge-gates, a maze of fantastic tracery in wrought iron, with weather-bitten pillars on either side, blotched with lichens, and surmounted by the boars’ heads of the Baskervilles”(p. 53-54). 10 Greed In The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the murderer of the book is portrayed through his greed and selfishness. His intentions, or goals, are to obtain the fortune of the late Sir Charles Baskerville. Achieving his goals and obtaining the fortune was due to the murderer’s desire for money and wealth.
