5 Sensus Distribution Automation
Distribution Automation (DA): Provides head end system and endpoints that enable a utility to remotely monitor, coordinate, and operate automation components in a real-time mode from remote locations. DA Endpoints monitor/control field equipment Information is reported to Host System using FlexNet or Cellular radios Information is made available to utility user via a DA head end system or through the utility’s SCADA system Commands/Requests can be sent at any time to the Endpoints Interfaces to any 3rd party intelligent electronic devices that communicate via DNP3 or Modbus

6 DA Endpoints Sensus DA products support a wide variety of automation applications Endpoints supported by PowerVista DA head end software Both FlexNet and Cellular versions available RTM II – Intelligent Electronic Device Communications Module T866 - MicroRTU NaviComm – Fault Current Indicator Receiver TC032 – Capacitor Bank Control They can send data and event notifications over a private, secure FlexNet system or by using existing cellular systems. PowerVista provides the communication network to detect, monitor, control, and make changes to the system remotely.

8 RTM II Overview Remote Telemetry Module for interfacing to Intelligent Electronic Devices Communication protocols: DNP 3.0/IEEE 1815 Modbus Radios: FlexNet, Cellular GSM, CDMA in development Remote Firmware Update/Tunneling Capability Three reporting methods: Report by Exception Time Scheduled Response to Report Requests IED Port Pass Thru Port IED Terminal PC Port DC Power BOTTOM

9 RTM Interface Example RTM II mounted on inside of cabinet
RTM II power shares IED DC supply SCADA connection for data monitoring and remote switch control Pass Through for device configuration program RTM II DA Device Controller Direct Pass Through SCADA Connection

10 Cooper Form 6 Recloser Control
RTM II – How It Works Programmed with a profile detailing the relevant points on the IED as well as how the user wants the data to be reported. Constantly polls the IED to get the latest data. When it discovers a reportable event, it initiates a report over the radio network to the DA head end The data is validated, acknowledged, and processed for distribution to the end user. Control and configuration information can be sent from the end user back to the IED as well. RTM II NOC Cooper Form 6 Recloser Control SEL651 Recloser Control End User IEDs

11 DA Configurator Software
Sensus DA Configuration software is used to: Change configuration settings Retrieve and view the present profile Choose a different profile Change communication settings Check radio signal strength Update firmware The software includes default profiles for each supported integration. Use a standard USB cable to connect the RTM II and the PC containing the DA Configuration software.
