Pendulum Inquiry Lab

Pendulum Lab Planning Day Today you will work as a group to create a testable question. You will then design/plan a lab that tests your variable. Examples of Testable Variables Include: – Length of String (longer or shorter) – Adding More Washers (changing the mass) – Distance You Pull Washers *Rough Drafts in Your Science Lab Journal First
3
Pendulum Lab Day Two Today you will need to follow the steps of your lab plan that your group created. – It’s ok if you need to make adjustments (like if you forgot a step and need to add it), but be sure you are staying true to your variable. Collect the data in your lab journal FIRST. Including a rough draft Data Table (see next slide) – I want to spot check your work BEFORE putting it into the Pendulum Lab Booklet.
4
You Will: Label the Data Chart in Your Booklet (be specific) Test your variable three times per change Record the Data VariableTrial 1Trial 2Trial 3Average Label Me
5
Making the graph Using the netbooks we will go enter the information from our data table to create a graph. You will need to go to this website: http://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph/ http://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph/

Writing Your CER Have a minimum of 5 Sentences Claim – We discovered that Evidence – Support your claim – How did you know it? Use your data to explain Reasoning – Why did that happen – Use what you know about science to explain. Here’s Example:
7
Last Day Write the Final Draft of Your CER and put together your Lab Report to turn in.
