Derbyshire County Council Children and Younger Adults Department We could / should: Remain open to learning Make T+L the first item on Area and County Team meetings Be an education leader/manager – who is knowledgeable about T+L excellence Teach regularly to emphasis the overriding importance of T+L Do Learning Walks in centres Take part in Education Research Encourage tutors to take part in meaningful CPD Deal with tutor underperformance effectively Have a relentless focus/drive on improving T+L Use coaching techniques when supporting tutors/learners Encourage tutors to – “try something new” Actively listen to learners

The Review A key objective within the delivery plan for ETF for 2013-2014 Three phases to the review: October 2013 to April 2014 Working closely with teachers, trainers, employers and sector stakeholders Survey, consultation events and in-depth interviews Over 950 responses to the review

What is the purpose of the 2014 Standards? Set out clear expectations of effective practice in education and training Enable teachers to identify areas for their own professional development Support initial teacher education Provide a national reference point that organisations can use to support the development of their staff

The 2014 Professional Standards Professional values and attributes Develop your own judgment of what works and does not work in your teaching and training Professional knowledge and understanding Develop deep and critically informed knowledge and understanding in theory and practice Professional Skills Develop your expertise and skills to ensure the best outcomes for learners

Teachers using the Professional Standards To support their own personal professional development To keep up to date with their subject/vocational area Support to adapt to the needs of a broad range of learners To update their teaching practice

Supporting the professional development of Teachers A basis for identifying developmental opportunities An aid in supporting discussions of observed learning and teaching practice Providing a series of objectives and guidance for those new to the sector

Derbyshire County Council Children and Younger Adults Department 21 Learner Progression & Destination Skills Funding Agency Requirements 2014/15 EFA funded learners - All learners (includes all Traineeships and High Needs students)* SFA funded learners - All Traineeships; Adult Skills Budget (and Other Skills Funding Agency funding learners with an employment status prior to enrolment of “Not in paid employment, looking for work and available to start work” DACES wish to collect for all learning provision

Derbyshire County Council Children and Younger Adults Department Learner Progression Further Learning Currently 83% of ASB learners progress to further learning. Procedures - Learner Detail Amendment (LDA) Improvement – Increase the progression of learners from CL to ASB Tutor role in IAG progression templateprogression template These are currently being developed for Maths, English, ICT and Child-care provision. Course information sheet – templatetemplate The service will be working incrementally through transferring the CIS stuff on Moodle now into the new “empty belly” templates. 22

Derbyshire County Council Children and Younger Adults Department Destination Withdrawals – more important to determine reason Job outcomes - the job must last 16 hours a week or more for at least four weeks in a row Register changes 2014/15 register register Post learning Follow up -for those learners where no information will be contacted 3 months after completing their learning (ASB only initially ) 23

Derbyshire County Council Children and Younger Adults Department Further development Regional Development Regional Peer Review and Development Network, Reviewing and sharing how data collected and utilising best practice. National Developments 2015/16 three core measures: destination (into further learning or into/within employment), progression (through learning) and earnings changes (following completion of learning). Develop methods of capturing the value that providers add during learning. The best approaches to measuring distance travelled start with the initial assessment, are integrated into the learner plan ( Skills Funding Statement 2013-16) 24
