7 NEW - Key Stage 4 – 14-16 Offer City & Guilds Technical Award in Business Enterprise within the Hair and Beauty sector (Pre-16) (120 GLH) (SSA 15.3) And: City & Guilds Technical Award in Hair and Beauty Studies (Pre-16) (120 GLH) (SSA 7.3) Can be delivered September 2014 for Yr. 10 & Yr11, but will not have performance measures Yr. 9 leaners can be registered and will count towards performance measures for 2017

10 Key Stage 4 – 14-16 Offer FAQ Q – Can these be used for Year 10 learners in September 2014? A – Yes, but they will not have any GCSE equivalencies. Q – Why then can Year 9 learners take these and get GCSE equivalences? A – A learner can not claim their GCSEs until the year of their 16 th Birthday and these will not be counted until June 2017 Q – Are these both worth 1 GCSE A* - C grade? A – Yes Q – Can learners take both qualifications? A – Yes, as they are built under 2 separate SSA’s 15

13 Key Stage 5 – Post 16 – FAQ’s Q – Does this mean that Colleges can not use NVQs any longer for full time learners? A – No, they can still deliver NVQ’s, but NVQ’s will not have any Performance measures applied to them. Q – When will GCSE’s or A level’s be counted in the Performance tables? A – For Level 3 the first teaching is September 2014 with points claimed in the performance tables for 2016, and will count towards A level’s. Level 2 first teaching is September2015 with points claimed in the performance tables in 2017, and will count towards GCSE’s. 18

14 SfA rules From November 2013 no funding for Level 1 qualifications that fall under 6 Credits for 19+ learners L2 and L3 nothing under 15 Credits will be funded All qualifications need letters of support from Employers, Trade/professional Associations All qualifications MUST be submitted with recognition and purposes Low/no take up – quarterly review. AOs need to challenge, with evidence that 100 learners across 5 providers have taken this qualification to show a proven track record. Many qualifications will cease to be funded for 19+ learners SfA Business Rules from November 2013

23 The Future of Apprenticeships in England - Trailblazers

24 What are the main aims of the reforms? High quality Higher expectations of English and Math's, more assessment at end of Apprenticeship and introducing grading. Employer driven Ensuring rigorous training that will support economic growth Simple Complex frameworks to be replaced by standards of around one page written by employers.

25 Standards designed by employers will replace existing Frameworks. New standards will be clear and concise (2 x page of A4). Typically two thirds of assessment will be at the end of the Apprenticeship. All Apprenticeships will last a minimum of 24 months Hair & 12 months Beauty. Apprenticeships will be graded: Pass, Merit, Distinction. Background

26 Phase 2 and timescale Lead employers Hellen Ward – Richard Ward – Hair George Hammer – Urban Retreats – Beauty Objective to create a set of standards to meet employer needs Must represent small, medium and large employers In future, Government will only fund Apprenticeships on the basis of these standards Includes high level assessment
