Bursary levels for shortage subject and for high quality graduates: the positioning of the teaching profession as one which the best quality graduates would want to join’ ( new career structures for ‘Master Teachers’. Toughened up entry requirements Greater role for schools: SCITTS, Teaching Schools, Schools Direct Specialism in maths and science and MTL in primary encouraged Re frame GTP for career changers who will want to be employed while they train.

New OfSTED Inspection framework for ITT providers. Can only be outstanding if partnership working is outstanding Importance of ‘Deep Partnership’ with measurable impacts of pupil achievement.

School Direct Strategic Direction Overall increase in the number of places allocated to schools Particular focus on increasing places allocated to primary schools Continued focus on quality Maintain the proportion of partnerships led by outstanding schools Increase schools’ confidence and ability to commission and deliver, in partnership with ITT providers, teacher training that fully meets their needs Government want to: Expand existing School Direct partnerships/alliances Increase awareness of School Direct with all schools and providers not yet involved Help build large, sustainable school partnerships Attract primary schools not yet involved in School Direct to become involved, particularly outstanding primary schools

SD Registration for 2014 From 25 February schools register interest in School Direct places for 2014 A pre-requisite stage for all schools and to ask whether they are registering places on behalf of a wider partnership as a lead school or to join a partnership of schools Schools will be put on a mailing list and sent log in details to request School Direct places Requests for places from June to September with decisions by end of October Portal opens for applications in November

University Validate and award academic qualification /QTS designed with schools QA programmes Lead practice based research Develop and provide ‘consultant level’ expertise in subjects, phases and pedagogy Groups/Alliances of Schools Assess requirement for new teachers across the Alliance Commission HEI as partner in training programme Create capacity to deliver high quality ITT Bid for and receive ‘School Direct’ places Recruit high quality graduates Deploy outstanding teachers to demonstrate excellent practice and mentor across schools in the alliance Joint appointments, clinical professors, ITT resources matched to relative contributions
