Small group discussion a)As a patient, relative or carer, has there been something that you thought could have been done differently with regards to the care given? What would that be? b) What might make a patient feel vulnerable in a GP or hospital setting? c) What things do you think matter most to a patient in hospital? (apart from being made well, or as well as possible) d) What things about patients and carers do HCPs find most challenging?

Top ten tips for working with Patients 1.Information up front – maps, parking, fee, ‘get out clause’ etc. 2.Named link who can be contacted 3.Clear signage 4.Refreshments/base room/rest area

Top ten tips for working with Patients continued 6.Briefing – address patient/carer expectations: Q&A 7.Briefing – with a clear explanation of learning outcomes for the learner, who the audience are, setting 8.Debriefing session afterwards 9.Lots of positive feedback where it's due, to increase confidence, with analysis as to why. 10.Peer appraisal - where possible, patients to observe each other's work and learn from it.
