ROBOTICS MERIT BADGE WELCOME BOY SCOUTS!

Welcome to the Microsoft Store - Scottsdale Today’s Workshop: PowerPoint Presentation: Complete the workbook as the material is presented. Using a computer, research career opportunities in the robotics industry. In teams, design, plan, and build your robot according to the workbook. Show off your work! Merit Badge Recognition: Form a single file line so that Event leaders can review and sign-off on the cards for those scouts who accomplished this badge. 5 SAFETY – POTENTIAL HAZARDS Discuss A.M.R. A - Anticipate M - Mitigate & Prevent R - Respond Use A.M.R. on four different hazards

SAFETY – PROPER ATTIRE LONG SLEEVED SHIRT (TO PROTECT ARMS AND COVER GLOVES)

SAFETY – PROPER ATTIRE WORK GLOVES (TO PROTECT HANDS AND PROVIDE GRIP)

SAFETY – PROPER ATTIRE SAFETY GOGGLES (TO PROTECT EYES)

SAFETY – FIRST AID

1.Stop the bleeding. 2.Clean the wound. 3.Apply an antibiotic. 4.Cover the wound. 5.Change the dressing. 6.Get stitches for deep wounds. 7.Watch for signs of infection. 8.Get a tetanus shot. (source: The Mayo Clinic) SAFETY – FIRST AID (CUTS)

If you get a foreign object in your eye:  Wash your hands.  Try to flush the object out of your eye with clean water or saline solution. To help someone else:  Wash your hands.  Seat the person in a well-lighted area.  Gently examine the eye to find the object. Pull the lower lid down and ask the person to look up. Then hold the upper lid while the person looks down.  If the object is floating in the tear film on the surface of the eye, try flushing it out with saline solution or clean, lukewarm water. Caution  Don't try to remove an object that's embedded in the eyeball.  Don't rub the eye.  Don't try to remove a large object that makes closing the eye difficult. (source: The Mayo Clinic) SAFETY – FIRST AID (EYES)

 For minor burns (1 st degree and 2 nd degree burns)  Cool the burn.  Cover the burn with a sterile gauze bandage.  Take an over-the-counter pain reliever.  For major burns, call 911 or emergency medical help. Until an emergency unit arrives, follow these steps:  Don't remove burned clothing.  Don't immerse large severe burns in cold water.  Check for signs of circulation (breathing or movement).  Elevate the burned body part or parts.  Cover the area of the burn. (source: The Mayo Clinic) SAFETY – FIRST AID (BURNS)

CAREERS IN ROBOTICS Use a computer to research careers in the industry.

TIME TO BUILD ROBOTICS MERIT BADGE

 Divide into two teams  Choose a function for your robot  Select the sensors you will use  Draw out your ideas in a notebook and share with your team.  Build and program your robot ROBOT DESIGN/BUILD

DEMONSTRATE ROBOTICS MERIT BADGE
