P.R.A.Y. Program Outline P-programs of R-religious A-activities for Y-youth The P.R.A.Y. program is designed to provide elementary school age children with an overview of their family’s religious tenets. The P.R.A.Y. program supports curriculums for up to 56 specific religions and sects.

Program Outline The program is taught by a cleric or designated adult instructor. The training must be certified by a cleric. There are two program levels within the elementary school: grades 1-3, and 4&5. At the elementary school level, the P.R.A.Y. program is very basic. A more advanced and specific program is available at the higher grades. NOTE: Currently, Cornerstone Baptist Church (next to Lowes) is our designated provider. We are happy to arrange for other religions as needed.

Program Plan The Pack 578 Religious program includes weekly classes for each group, beginning in February (date TBD). The exact day of the week depends on the participants. Grades 1-3: 4-6 individual classes. Grades 4&5: 6-8 individual classes. Note: the pace of the class depends on the participants. Note: This program is completely optional.

Program Plan We may be able to coordinate with your specific church/synagogue/temple to provide the materials and have the instruction integrated into their regular Sunday School program (precluding your child from needing to attend our classes). As with all Scouting programs, family and friends are happily invited and encourage to participate.

Program Plan Upon completion of the classes, your child will earn the religious emblem and BSA religious knot of his faith. The knot is a lifetime achievement and stays on the uniform from Cub Scout to Boy Scout. The awards may be presented by your religious leader (at your church if you like) or at the Pack meeting (by the Cubmaster or your religious leader). Family members may also have their awards presented with their Scout.

Program Plan Because both the Boy and Girl Scouts programs use the P.R.A.Y. program to teach their members the value of religious faith, this program may incorporate both boys and girls in the training. We will coordinate with Stafford County Girl Scouts to invite their participation.

Curriculum Description At the elementary school level, the curriculum is very basic and includes (for Christians) an overview of God, creation, Jesus, and various stories from the Bible that coincide with biblical and Scouting principles. The lessons also incorporate daily life activities, discussions, and arts and crafts. For example, children will make a pizza where the different parts of the pizza represent Christian values and ideals. This is an interactive and participative program.

Curriculum Overview God and Me (grades 1-3) 1. Theme: “Best Friends with Jesus” 2. Read Bible stories and make games 3. Keep your games in a GAME Box 4. Do 4 lessons and 4 family projects 5. Memorize the Lord’s Prayer 6. Present your work to your pastor

Curriculum Overview God and Family (grades 4-5) 1. Theme: “Growing in God’s Love” 2. Meet Bible families 3. Learn how a pizza is like a family 4. Make a pizza 5. Do 6 lessons and 6 family projects 6. Memorize the Ten Commandments 7. Present your work to your pastor.

Anticipated Costs $25-$30 for child registration, medals, certificates, pin, and embroidered emblem. $12-15 for adult mentor pin, patch and certificate. Note: we are unsure of the knot prices at this time. They are likely about $5.
