14 Leads to teacher certification in grades kindergarten through 12 Based on a Comprehensive Arts Education model that emphasizes study in studio, art history, aesthetics and art criticism Aligned with national and state standards in the visual arts and teaching Provides students with a broad foundation in general education, extensive study in art, and art education with multiple field experiences Students who have completed a BFA in Art and wish to earn initial teacher certification should investigate KSU’s Master of Arts in Teaching Art. 15 Introduces students to visual culture from a range of periods, regions, and contexts Rigorous, global, and interdisciplinary Students learn to analyze both objects and texts as historical evidence. All aspects of visual culture in society, including its techniques, makers, patrons, viewers, and collectors are studied. Students take courses in related disciplines such as anthropology, film studies, gender and women’s studies, history, literature, philosophy, and studio art. 16 Concentration in Ceramics Provides a strong foundational experience in hands-on throwing and sculpting techniques Mid-level courses allow students to gain technical proficiency in clay and glaze formulation, as well as kiln- design and firing technique. 20 Provides comprehensive coursework to prepare students as professional artists Our internationally acclaimed faculty artists provide a solid foundation in diverse traditional and contemporary image creation techniques, ranging from technical to conceptual. Upper level courses in painting and drawing also include aqueous media, figure painting, and landscape painting. Each faculty member offers unique insights into the world of contemporary art, encouraging the development of imagination and design in contemporary realism, concept art, abstraction and exploration of new mixed media. 22 Embraces a highly conceptual fine arts program emphasizing creative, lens-based media Covers both traditional black and white techniques and processes along with mixed media, video, installation, and other contemporary art practices Students explore professional lighting techniques, a variety of camera types, large format printing, some antiquated processes, video shooting and editing techniques. Students begin exhibiting in galleries, organizing group exhibitions, and coordinating artist talks within the community before finishing the program. Located in KSU’s Arts District, the Zuckerman Museum of Art represents the newest art museum in Georgia, and only the second art museum on a University System of Georgia campus. The ZMA works closely with the School of Art and Design to enhance student education through research opportunities, lectures, and internships. The ZMA also presents a wide array of rotating exhibitions, dynamic programs, and exciting events that students can learn from, attend, or even participate in.
