Current Inundation Zones Have been mapped by State of Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) since 1994 New generation under development Considers new science Local Sources Distant Sources
9
Tsunami Sources Local Sources Originating from Cascadia Subduction Zone Limited Time to React Only Warning May be Earthquake Produces large tsunami Distant Sources Generated from Distant Source May Delay Tsunami by 4 hours May arise from Asian side of Pacific or from Gulf of Alaska May arise from earthquake that is felt or submarine Other sources There may be multiple waves with large time intervals

11
Tillamook County Current Inundation Zone
12
Focus Areas – City of Tillamook
13
Focus Areas – Cannon Beach
14
Revision of Inundation Zones Seeks to use current research and extend the tsunami zone if applicable Specifically looking at 1700 rupture/tsunami Can then be used to to identify critical infrastructure Hospitals Public Safety Answering Points Fire Departments Major Roadways Alt Routes Airports / Landing Zones
15
Literature Search Literature Search using Penn State Library & Google Scholar revealed 28 pertinent journal articles/conference presentations. Divided into 3 areas pertinent to this project: Seismological research into causes and sizes of tsunamis, focusing on the Pacific Coast Paleo-seismic research into past events that focus on the area in question with the intent of expanding the inundation zone Emergency Management Approach to Tsunamis

Data Sources Oregon Spatial Data Clearinghouse Political divisions Roads DOGAMI data Homeland Infrastructure Foundation-Level Data (HIFLD) Hospitals Emergency Assets Digital Elevation Models Custom Datasets Academia
17
Methodology Use existing Inundation Zone Research Estimated Inundation Zone of 1700 Earthquake Create revised Inundation Zone Feature Class of Critical Infrastructure (CI) Identify CI on both zones Feature Class of Possible Refuge Points Use Road Network to identify connectivity
18
Deliverables Target audience – Emergency Planners & Civic Leaders Storymap for stakeholders Comparison of Zones Location of Critical Infrastructure Prioritized Possible Gathering Points Road Network Connectivity Reference Maps Planning & reference
