Vanderbilt University Toshiba IR Test Apparatus Project Final Design Review Ahmad Nazri Fadzal Zamir Izam Nurfazlina Kamaruddin Wan Othman
2
Problem Toshiba’s goal is to achieve 100% test coverage on all projects. For this TV, some test coverage was missing in the IR blasting area
3
Definition of need Create a test program that can verify the TV is outputting the correct IR signals to devices that are connected through IR blaster cable
4
Toshiba H93 Digital Integrated TV a new model HDTV uses infrared blaster outputs Uses one remote to control all the devices that are connected to TV
5
Signal Flow Remote control sends signal to TV TV sends electric signal to IR blaster For this project, we are going to test the signal from TV to other devices IR Blasting area
6
GLINK Use to connect cable box and VCR
7
TheaterNet Use to connect DVD player
8
Approach Set up connection from TV to CPU through IR cable Design a program that has two modes: - Creating database - Testing mode
9
Short descriptions
10
Signal flow from TV to devices
11
Specification Creating Database The output signals from the television will be analyzed and their characteristics will be stored in a reasonably compact manner Sampling Sample at least 4 different brands of DVD and VCR signals Analyze Analyze characteristics of signals and known signals will be created Operator will take sampling signals and store in database A ‘name’ will be designated for each particular signal
12
Specification (continued) Storage Operator will take sampling signals and store in database A ‘name’ will be designated for each particular signal Search capability Be able to access signals in database
13
Specification (Continued) Testing Mode Program will instruct user to drive the TV using remote control The program will analyze the signals and compare them with signals from database The program then will log pass/fail result to user interface and text file.
14
Specification (continued) The program will also display the statistics of the test signal comparing with the known signal in the database Signal length Position where errors occur Type of error Display statistic in table Graphical display of expected versus failed infrared signal pulse train.
