3 50 NNBP Trainees return from China The first 50 South African trainees sent to China by South Africa in April 2015 have returned home after completing phase 1 of the SA Civil Nuclear Energy Training (SACNET) Programme. The second phase of the training programme will see South Africa sending more trainees to China to be trained at various levels.

4 50 NNBP Trainees return from China The training was in the form of lectures as well as tours to some of China’s nuclear facilities. Trainees received lectures in nuclear power plant related subjects such as: Nuclear safety regulatory systems Nuclear island system equipment Codes and safety oversight Steam power conversion systems Material science Conventional island system equipment Thermodynamics and basis of reactor thermal hydraulics Radiation protection Electrical systems and equipment Generic mechanical equipment Instrumentation and control theories Water chemistry Operation theories Basic knowledge of project management And nuclear safety culture.

5 National Science Week 2015 This year 180 learners a day enjoyed a full programme at the NVC from 03 - 05 August 2015 during the National Science Week (NSW). 1600 learners were reached in total. On 06 and 07 August 2015 the NVC educators team reached out to schools in Lotus Gardens.

6 Necsa Women’s Day 2015 Necsa women celebrated Women’s Day on Friday, 14 August 2015 at the Necsa Visitor Centre (NVC) Women enjoyed a great speech by Dr Namane Magau, chairperson of the NTP board; Dr Magau shared the stage with Ambassador Seekoe, chairman of the Necsa Board, and Liesl Laurie, Ms South Africa 2015.

7 Nelson Mandela Day On Saturday, 18 July 2015 the world celebrated ‘Nelson Mandela International Day’ which is a global movement to honour the life of “Tata” Madiba. Necsa spent a day at the Kingdom Life Children Centre in Atteridgeville, a home that takes care of more than 60 children who are either; abused, orphaned, abandoned, etc. Necsa donated three computers, food, clothes, washing baskets, microwave oven and furniture.

8 SABC Education African EduWeek 2015 Necsa joined professionals, institutions and suppliers in the educational industry during the 9th Annual SABC Education African EduWeek at the Gallagher Convention Centre, from 1 - 2 July 2015. This year’s theme was ‘Enter a world of educational knowledge’, Necsa managed to reach more than 3500 teachers and education professionals during the two days.

9 Deputy Minister of Energy visits Necsa Deputy Minister Thembisile Majola visited Necsa on 03 July 2015. The Deputy Minister visited several Necsa nuclear facilities including the SAFARI-1 Research Reactor.

10 Energy Portfolio Committee visits Necsa The Portfolio Committee on Energy visited Necsa on 22 July 2015 in order to familiarize the committee members with various activities of Necsa and its subsidiaries.

11 Coega Development Corporation The Coega Development Corporation visited Necsa on 26 August 2015 and discussed areas of co-operation in: Manufacturing Nuclear Energy Stakeholder relations Industrial development Skills development and training Public awareness and demystification of nuclear energy and related matters

12 MD of Pelchem resigns The Pelchem Board of Directors have accepted with regret the resignation of Dr Petro Terblanche, Managing Director of Pelchem, effective from 30 June 2015. Mr Rajen Naidoo is the acting MD effective from 01 July 2015. The Board will embark on the process to recruit and appoint an MD for Pelchem. Dr Petro Terblanche
