5 Qualification for license exam - practical experience : min. three years of practical experience in architect’s office or total min. 5 years of practical experience with foreign license - academic requirement: min. 8 school terms to be finished in accredited 5 year program - person who has min. 5 years of practical experience in architect’s office who passed preliminary exam for architect’s license License upon Professional Qualification Examination Registration to the Ministry of Construction and Transportation Korea Institute of Registered Architect 2. Major Activities 3.1 Domestic 1) National Architect Registration Board - to be established based on new Architectural Fundamental Law - KIRA delegated by MLTM and set up Preparatory Committee 2) Architects Mutual Aid Association - history; Feb. 2010 amended KIRA’s Article July, 2010 amended Architect’s Law Oct. 2010 established Jan. 2011 commenced works - purpose: to provide the ways for covering all guarantees req’d by law in professional practice such as Compensation for damages, Money paid in advance, warranty and etc.

7 Korea Institute of Registered Architect 3.1 Domestic Activities 3) Research on Architects’ Fee Scale - to realize the proper fee scale to meet the requirement for additional services increased by recent trends; eco-friendly design, BIM, IBS, Barrier-free and others. 4) New Law on the Building Maintenance System - a part of extending architects’ job - to meet social demands

9 Korea Institute of Registered Architect 3.1 Domestic 5) Others - Eco-friendly Architectural Design Academy purpose: to produce the experts in eco-friendly architecture design to establish infrastructure of eco-friendly market to expand eco-friendly architecture society principal: prof. Kim, Kwang Hyun (Seoul National University) outcome: a. regular program: 130-150 hours for a program employee and arch. Student 315 graduates in 6 programs b. special program: 30 hours for CEO architect 138 graduates in 2 programs

10 Korea Institute of Registered Architect 3.1 Domestic 5) Others - Presidential Commission on Architectural Policy Established in 2008 based upon new Architecture Fundamental Law Commission Chair: Prof. Lee, Sang Jeong Vision: “ Beautiful Land, Comfortable Living Space” Objectives: 1. Create a noble living space 2. Build a basis for green growth in the field of architecture and urban space 3. Build creative architectural culture

International Activities 1)Bid for UIA 2017 Seoul - Seoul Metropolitan City decided to bid for UIA 2017 - MOU between FIKA and Seoul City signing on May, 2010 - Goals: to shift a paradigm of perception in architecture; from perceiving architecture as a part of construction fields to architecture as culture and intellectual industry and heritage of the city for next generation.

16 Korea Institute of Registered Architect 3.2 International Activities APEC Architects Project - History Oct. 2005 : MLTM entrust KIRA Oct. 2005 : KIRA organized Architect Monitoring Committee Dec. 2005 : Commenced the registration work Jan. 2006 : Launched APEC Architect Project in Korea - Committee : Chair Kim, Chi Tok(Advisor) and 9 members from 4 institutes - Members: Total number of Korean APEC Architects: 162 First registration: 261 Re-registered in 2011: 91 Second registration: 42(till May, 2012) Third registration: 29 - MOU in progress with other member Countries: None
