2 HAZWOPER Hierarchy HAZWOPER Introduction – 1 hour Web-based HAZWOPER First Responder Awareness – 1 hour Web-based HAZWOPER First Responder Awareness (Level 1) – 2 hours Combines the above web-based modules: Topics Include: Chemical Hazards & Control Measures Hazardous Materials Emergencies & Response Identification Techniques First Responder Responsibilities and limitations

3 HAZWOPER Hierarchy (cont) HAZWOPER First Responder Operations (Level 2) – 24 hours Satisfies OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 Topics include: Hazard/risk assessment techniques Selection/use of PPE; decontamination procedures Control, containment, and confinement operations Renewed annually with 8-hr refresher HAZWOPER Hazardous Materials Technician (Level 3) – 40 hours Satisfies OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 All topics from Level 2, plus: Implementing emergency response plans Classification/identification/verification of materials Incident Command System Renewed annually with 8-hr refresher
