3 Essential Nutrition Actions  Promotion of optimal nutrition for women  Promotion of adequate intake of iron and folic acid and prevention of anemia in women and children  Promotion of adequate intake of iodine by all members of the household  Promotion of optimal breast-feeding during the first six months  Promotion of optimal complementary feeding starting at 6 months with continued breast-feeding to 2 years of age and beyond  Promotion of optimal nutritional care of sick and malnourished children  Prevention of vitamin A deficiency in women and children

4 GALIDRAA G --- Greet the mother/caregiver and establish confidence for the session A --- Ask the mother/caregiver about current practices (feeding, breastfeeding, etc.) L --- Listen to what the mother/caregiver says I --- Identify the difficulty, if any, and/or the causes of the difficulty D --- Discuss with the mother different feasible options to overcome the difficulty R --- Recommend and negotiate doable actions: present options and NEGOTIATE with the mother/caregiver to select one that can be tried A --- Agreement from mother/caregiver to try one or more of the options and mother/caregiver repeats the agreed-upon option to confirm this agreement A --- Appointment is made for a follow-up visit or check-in

5 Quick and Dirty Work Plan Notes Who will be the “counselor?” What will be the role of the Volunteer? What frequency will events require? How many events/ activities will be planned? What resources are available to assist this process? Who else needs to be involved? What will success look like?
