Engineering Process Identify the Need Research the Need Develop Possible Design Determine which Design will be the Best Design the Electrical Prototype Construct the Prototype Test and Evaluate the Prototype Complete the Project Communicate and Present
3
May 12 – Daily Grade Phase 1 Identify the need Research the need Develop Possible Design(s) Introduction Explain what the purpose of the project is Materials &Analytical questions Determine what materials you need and who will be bringing the materials Write down the requirements Calculate between R, V, I in parallel vs series on worksheet Structural Blue print Sketch different options of what you want to construct Barn, house, amusement park, airplane, etc.
5
May 13 – Daily grade Phase 2 Determine the best Structural design Design the Electrical Prototype Final structural blueprint Final sketch of your structural design Electrical schematic blue print Draw how you will wire and place your lights, fans, and other electrical devices
8
May 16 to May 20 – Daily grade Phase 3 Construct the prototype Test and Evaluate the prototype Complete the project Communicate and Present Results Did your prototype work, what made it work? Did your prototype not work? What did you have to do to make it work? Conclusion What did you learn from this project about electrical circuits?

Materials needed Cardboard boxes Christmas lights Motor (manual fan, toy, any small electrical motor) Dollar stores Electrical tape Paper clips Battery (square 9v) Pliers Silicone glue gun and silicone stick or glue gun and glue sticks Box cutters Props Extra materials for project decoration Students might choose to bring more sophisticated materials to complete the project such as: Wood, LED lights, Small electric switches, Electrical wire, etc.

Grades Phase 1 - Daily grade On time Quality Design must be clear, must be label and clean. Phase 2 – Daily grade On time Quality Electrical design must be clear, must be label and clean. Phase 3 – Daily grade On time Quality

9 weeks Exam Project Presentation At least one motor with separate switch, wires not showing- 10 points At least three sets of lights in series ( each set with its own switch) Wires not showing – 15 points At least three lights in parallel( each set with its own switch) Wires not showing – 20 points All components are powered by one single power source – 5 points Structural/decorating component (things not falling off, not crooked, well done props) – 25 points Lab report and class presentation: Intro, materials and questions, structural and electrical blue prints, results, conclusion (PowerPoint or hard copy) – 25 points
12
Do not show wires No Wires showing within structure…Great! BUT decorations/props are sub par (below)
