Weapons of WW1 World War One is often called the first modern war because of the new technology used.

In 1916 the armies began using tanks to try and end trench warfare. To counter the tank threat both sides also developed the flamethrower.

Airplanes were also used for the first time in a war. Two of the most famous pilots included Manfred von Richtofen or The Red Baron (German) and Eddie Rickenbacker (U.S.)

The most infamous weapon used in the war was poison gas. Examples included Mustard gas and Chlorine gas. These gasses could cause blindness and even death.

The leader of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) was General John J. “Black Jack” Pershing, the same person who led the hunt for Francisco “Pancho” Villa.
