1  What you should know: Basic Trig (SOHCAHTOA), Pythagorean Theorem, Compass directions, a little Physics (34/35 of you), angle properties (Geometry!).  What you will learn:  Represent and operate with vectors geometrically and in a coordinate plane  Solve physics problems using vectors  Find the dot and cross product of two or more vectors  Work in THREE dimensions!

2  At the end of the chapter, after the unit test, you will have to complete a project.  This project will have some math, a lot of physics, a video, and a presentation…and maybe much, much more!  You will develop a real-life situation and model it using vectors! Yay!  More to come as we near the end of the chapter.

3  Scalar vs. vector  Scalar = magnitude or size  Ex.) speed and mass are the most common scalar quantities.  A boat traveling at 15 knots  Vector = scalar + direction  Ex.) velocity and weight are the most common vector quantities.  A boat traveling at 15 knots due west.  Work on page 488/ 1, 3, 5 – 2 minutes!

6  Parallel vectors  Same or opposite direction; could have different magnitudes  Equivalent vectors  Same magnitude and direction  Opposite vectors  Same magnitude, but opposite direction

8  When two or more vectors are added, their sum is a single vector called the resultant.  Two methods…  Triangle (head to tail)  Resultant is from tail of first vector to head of second vector.  Parallelogram (tail to tail)  Resultant is the diagonal of the parallelogram.
