Electricity in the Concurrent List of the Indian Constitution – Powers divided between Federal and State Governments Union Ministry of Power is responsible for the Administration of the Electricity Act, 2003 and the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 Union Ministry of Power oversees the Restructured Accelerated Power Development & Reform Programme (R-APDRP) for strengthening of sub- transmission and distribution network and reduction in AT&C losses Union Ministry of Power also oversees deployment of rural electrification schemes through the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) Around 150 power utilities - Almost all the 29 States in the country have at least one State-owned GENCO, TRANSCO and DISCOM, apart from the Central GENCOs (NTPC, NHPC, NPCIL, DVC, BBMB, NEEPCO, THDC, SJVN) and TRANSCO (PGCIL), and private utilities India’s Power Sector

Industry Competitiveness Technology Up gradation Skills Development Exports Conversion of Latent Demand Core Themes of Improvement in the Mission Plan Under each of the five Themes, all areas of concern have been identified and Interventions recommended. DHI has set up two Inter-Ministerial Groups (IMGs) to formulate a cogent and common approach. Two meetings have taken place.
