Mrs. Cozart’s Math Class! Welcome! Come in a sit where you want for now. You will be moving so don’t get too comfortable. Please take a sheet of notebook paper from the center of your table and start to answer the questions below. I.What is something fun or unique you did this summer? II.What time do you usually go to bed during the school year? III.What do you want to achieve this year? IV.What’s your favorite book/TV show/movie? Why? V.If you could be a super hero, what would your power be? VI.If you could have lunch with anyone, with whom would you dine? Why? VII.What career would you like to have when you get older? VIII.What extra-curricular activities do you participate in? (sports, drama, music, ROTC, etc.) IX.If you could change one thing about CMS, what would it be? How would you change it? X.Write down three truths and one lie about yourself. MIX THEM UP! Someone will have to guess which is the lie from your three statements.

Things we are going to do today: o Who is Mrs. Cozart? o Meet each other and move seats o Classroom Expectations and Procedures o Talk about manager positions, application and interview process. o Go over supplies you will need for my class o If time: Power of 2 game; suduko; and movie clip

Who is Mrs. Cozart???? This is my first year at Clark, but my 5 th year teaching math. I have been in Irving. I grew up in Grapevine, TX. I graduated from CHHS. In high school, I was in colorguard, winterguard, band (Flute), and jazz band (piano). I also have played piano for 20 years and handbells for10. I went to Texas Tech University and have a BA in Marketing.

Who is Mrs. Cozart???? I was in sales for 3 years before I figured out TEACHING is where I was meant to be! I come from a long line of teachers. My mom, both aunts, many of my cousins, both grandmothers, and one of my grandfathers are all teachers. I have a rescue mut dog (Keele), who is my world! I got married this summer. So I will have to get use to you calling me Mrs. Cozart. I do not have any kids but I do have two nieces who I get to see all the time. Lily and Ruby.

Student Surveys You are going to get up around the room and move while you hear the music playing. You will need a notecard from me with a number on it as well as your warm up survey. When the music stops I will tell you who to find so listen carefully. I will then call out a number and you will share your answers with your partner. (30 sec each). We will end with me telling you were your new seats will be.

I expect the world of you, mostly because I know you can do it! I will not tolerate distractions from learning. Therefore, my rules are simple. Where do you see them? CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS & PROCEDURES

In order to be respectful of me, your fellow classmates and ultimately yourself, several things must happen: Take your learning seriously. Come to class ready to learn. Allow others to learn. Allow me to teach.

Manager Positions and Table Numbers Each table group has a number and each person at the table has a number…we will use these all year long as well. Let’s look at the manager positions and talk about each one. Applications due by this Friday. I will set up an interview time with each of you as you turn them in. They will need to be before or after school. (If needed I can do a few during lunch as well.) They will not last longer than a few minutes.

I will now pass out conversation questions and you will take turns flipping over a question and each person will answer the question. You will have 20 seconds each. I will give you wait time before I start the clock.

Cozart’s Consequences Talley System Talleys can be given for any classroom learning disruption. 1 Talley is a warning. 2 Talley stay after class and talk 3 Talley stay after and email home. 4 Talley stay after and phone call home. 5 Talley referral

Cozart Praise!! Tickets! Any time I see students helping, working extra hard, helping me, or any other positive thing you will get a ticket. Through out the year (no set schedule) I will ask the ticket manager to count the tickets for the class and talley mark them. You will placed in a tier system and you will get to pick from the list of prizes like… Homework pass (1pg only and have to solve 1 of the problems); Tardy pass; Hat pass; Pick-a-partner pass; Snack pass; Drink pass; MP3 pass; Calculator Pass; Restroom Pass; Small and Large Grab Bag

Supply List Please write down that you will need a folder and a spiral for my class. THAT’S YOUR FIRST NIGHT OF HOMEWORK!! You need these by Wednesday!! If you can’t afford something or if there are circumstances where you can’t go to the store, PLEASE come see me!! I can help!! Here is what the plan is so that you can be organized….
