7 Chapter 16 Section 1: ALCOHOL Read section 1 pages 374-377. Complete Section 1 Review questions 1-4. When available, complete Mrs. Simms’ survey on a student computer. Homework: ▫Section 1 questions 5-7. ▫Read sections 2 and 3 for tomorrow.

12 Alcohol’s Affects on the Body ▫Why does intoxication cause dehydration even though drinkers consume a lot of liquid when they drink?  Intoxication causes the kidneys to produce more urine and the body to lose more water.

13 …Alcohol’s Affects on the body… Why does intoxication make drinkers feel warmer in cold weather even though they are at an increased risk of “freezing” to death? ▫Intoxication causes blood to flow to the skin’s surface and core body temperature to decrease.

Prepare for Pressure ▫What are the reasons for saying no at this time of your life? ▫How can you come across as confident? ▫In what situations would you most likely experience pressure to drink? ▫What are your friends pressuring you to drink? ▫Are there other friends that can help you stick to your decision? Stick to your decision ▫Never apologize!

29 ROLE PLAYING REFUSAL SKILLS Groups of 4-5 Develop a realistic BUT fictitious situation where someone is pressured to use alcohol (no real names or situations that would be familiar to classmates) Plan for at least one group member to be role playing refusal skills. Follow the refusal skill guide on pages 378-379. All group members must play a role. You have 15 minutes to prepare… good luck
